Description :

The unit has a total of 29 beds.

Staffing ratios are 5 : 1 during the day and 6 : 1 at night.

Patients typically present with neurological issues, neurosurgery needs, amputations, multi-trauma cases, cardiac conditions, and complex medical situations, including tracheostomies (no ventilators).

Registered Nurses on the unit are not required to titrate drips, except for heparin.

Telemetry is available but is not monitored by registered nurses; tele packs are used instead.

Registered Nurses are required to attend team conferences for acute inpatient rehab.

House supervisors are present, but charge nurses are not available.

Nurse aides are on the unit with a ratio of 1 : 9 or 1 : 10.

Physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, and pulmonary or cardiac rehab are provided.

Respiratory equipment available includes CPAP and BiPAP for sleep apnea management; nasal cannulas are also used, with the option for high flow but no heated high flow.

Shifts run from 7 a.m. to 7 : 30 p.m. for days and from 7 p.m. to 7 : 30 a.m. for nights.

Every other weekend and holiday rotation is required for nursing staff.

Floating to long-term acute care or medical-surgical units may be required, but floating to the high acuity unit requires additional training.

Any color scrubs are acceptable, though t-shirts are not permitted unless approved.

Two days of class orientation are followed by 2-3 days with a preceptor.

Nurses will need to learn rehabilitation-specific documentation as part of their orientation.

The charting system used is Epic.

A Bachelor of Science in Nursing is not required for this position.

This role is within a post-acute care setting.
