Accounting Director

Director of Technical Accounting and Continuous Improvement

The Director of Technical Accounting and Continuous Improvement will lead the company's technical accounting function and drive process transformation across the finance organization. This role is pivotal in ensuring compliance with U.S. GAAP, FAR / DFARS, 404(B) compliance while promoting operational excellence and automation within accounting and reporting processes.

The ideal candidate has a strong background in both technical accounting and government contract accounting, along with a passion for leveraging technology and process improvement to create scalable, efficient operations in a fast-growing mid-market environment.

Technical Accounting & Compliance

Serve as the company's subject matter expert on U.S. GAAP, FAR / DFARS, and CAS requirements.

Research, document, and communicate positions on complex or non-routine transactions (e.g., revenue recognition under ASC 606, capitalization of software development costs, lease accounting under ASC 842, and business combinations, ASC 815 and ASC 820).

Maintain and update the company's accounting policy manual and ensure consistent application across business units and contracts.

Monitor and assess the impact of new accounting standards and regulatory changes; lead implementation projects as needed.

Support internal and external audits by preparing technical memos, audit schedules, and documentation for complex transactions.

Continuous Improvement & Transformation

Lead process optimization initiatives within the controllership and accounting organization, focusing on closing efficiency, automation, and accuracy.

Implement and enhance systems and tools (e.g., consolidation, project accounting modules, reporting automation) to improve transparency and scalability.

Develop KPIs and dashboards to monitor accounting efficiency, data quality, and compliance performance.

Drive change management and continuous improvement culture across the finance team.

Collaborate cross-functionally with FP&A, Contracts, Operations, and IT to align data flows and reporting standards.

Leadership & Collaboration

Mentor the accounting team on technical accounting issues and continuous improvement projects.

Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership on accounting and compliance implications of strategic initiatives, M&A, and contract structures.

Build strong relationships with auditors, consultants, and internal stakeholders to ensure seamless coordination and communication.

What You Need To Have

Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; Master's degree or MBA preferred.

Certification : CPA required (active license strongly preferred).

10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including public accounting (Big 4 or national firm) and industry experience in government contracting or technology.

Deep understanding of U.S. GAAP.

Experience driving process improvement, automation, or system transformation projects (ERP upgrades, close optimization, RPA, etc.).

Experience in a mid-market or rapidly scaling environment preferred.
