Division of Development and Alumni Relations The Division of Development and Alumni Relations at the University of Georgia advances the goals, objectives, and priorities of the university by generating private financial support, building, and maintaining relationships with alumni and donors, and assisting students with career development opportunities. Career Center The University of Georgia Career Center is the provider of centralized career services to undergraduate, graduate students, and alumni at The University of Georgia. Career Center staff work collaboratively with faculty and staff of all departments to enhance the career success of University of Georgia students / alumni. Several of the “nuts & bolts” services the UGA Career Center provides to its students include career counseling, job search training, and opportunities to connect with employers. The Career Center also serves as a corporate gateway to the University by helping employers meet key faculty / staff, understand culture and curriculum, and successfully recruit UGA students and alumni. A broad group of corporate, government, and nonprofit employers recruit at The University of Georgia, and the Career Center facilitates this process through career fairs, on-campus interviews, and a variety of recruiting and educational programs and events.

Minimum Qualifications :

Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent and 8 years of professional experience

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Master’s degree in higher education, student affairs, counseling, or a related field.
  • In-depth knowledge of graduate and postdoctoral career development needs, including academic and industry career pathways, experiential learning, and job search strategies.
  • Proficiency with career development tools and platforms relevant to graduate students, such as ImaginePhD, Aurora, Beyond the Professoriate, and Handshake.
  • Strong coaching and counseling skills with the ability to guide various graduate student populations through individualized development plans, job search strategies, and career exploration.
  • Demonstrated program design and implementation expertise, including planning, coordinating, and evaluating career education events, conferences, and workshops targeted at graduate and postdoctoral communities.
  • Effective leadership and supervisory skills with experience managing professional staff and graduate assistants, including mentoring, performance evaluation, and fostering a collaborative team environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including verbal and written communication, presentation delivery, and relationship building with students, faculty, staff, and employers.
  • Strong project management and organizational abilities, capable of handling multiple initiatives simultaneously and meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Position Summary :

    Reporting to the Career Center’s Director of Career Education, this position coordinates and provides broad strategic coaching, programming, and resources related to career exploration, job-related skill development, experiential learning, and employment for University of Georgia Graduate Students. This position also coordinates the Graduate School Information Day as well as the Graduate Student Career Conference, which actively engages professional schools and employers. In consultation with the Graduate School, this position will lead the development and strategic implementation and integration of career education across graduate programs. This position supervises a team of Career Consultants and graduate assistants.

    Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and / or Competencies :

  • Professional experience in career services or a related area, with demonstrated expertise in career exploration, coaching, and job-related skill development.
  • Experience supervising professional or student staff and providing guidance in the delivery of high-impact career programs.
  • Ability to work independently with a high degree of autonomy while maintaining productive collaborations with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with career assessment tools (e.g., MBTI, Strong, CliftonStrengths) and their application in student development.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple complex projects, prioritize competing demands, and work effectively with various populations in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

    Duties / Responsibilities :

    Graduate and Postdoctoral Career Programming and Support

  • Initiate, coordinate, and implement resources and programming for Graduate Students with an emphasis on industry career exploration.
  • Provide coaching support through Job Search Strategy and Individualized Development Plan appointments.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for the Graduate School, Office of Graduate Student Professional Enhancement, the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs, College Associate Deans, Department Chairs, and faculty to determine career services needs to support graduate and postdoctoral communities.
  • Develop, maintain, and evaluate the Graduate Student Services webpage, career development tools and resources including institutional subscriptions live Imagine PhD, Aurora, and Beyond the Professoriate.
  • Collaborate with faculty, career consultants, and graduate and professional students and postdoctoral leaders to develop programs and services that are specific to the career development needs of graduate and postdoctoral populations.
  • Lead coordination and post-event assessment efforts for Graduate School Information Day and the Graduate Student Career Conference by engaging with key stakeholders.

    Duties / Responsibilities :

    Supervision and Performance Management

  • Supervise 3-4 Career Consultants and / or 1 Graduate Assistant serving several schools and colleges.
  • Provide guidance and support through individual and group meetings, semester reports, strategic planning meetings and professional development opportunities.
  • In coordination with Director of Career Education, develop KPIs and expectations for employees reporting to this position. Mentor and evaluate his / her performance annually.
  • Serves as a liaison to the University Mentor Program, Employer Relations, and Academic Integration teams for employees reporting to this position.

    Duties / Responsibilities :

    Graduate Talent Engagement and Employer Partnership

  • Act as the liaison between employers and UGA Graduate Students to promote appropriate job postings through email and provide employers with insights about graduate student engagement.
  • Collaborate with Employer Relations to advocate for and provide strategies to employers seeking graduate talent.
  • Proactively engage with Schools and Colleges to increase graduate student engagement with Career Center resources and programs, like the UGA Mentor Program.
  • Actively support Career Consultants with appointments during high-demand periods and by regularly offering 15-minute Career Quick Chat appointments for general support.

    Stakeholder Engagement and Institutional Collaboration

  • Meet and communicate regularly with key UGA contacts, e.g., UGA Faculty, Administrators, Undergraduate and Graduate coordinators, Alumni Relations, Development, etc. to develop appropriate career services for Graduate Students.
  • Regularly attend division-wide events and meetings including Discover DAR, Townhall, Development meetings, etc.
