Patient Population

Neonates, Infants, Pediatrics, Adolescents

Prematurity, ELBW, LPI, RDS, sepsis, hypoglycemia, occasional surgeries

Mostly from L&D (90%); ~5% from outside (home, MD office, ED)

Ranges from critical to feeder / growers; rapid census fluctuation (5–20 patients)

Staffing & Ratios

1 : 2

12 hours (07 : 00–19 : 30 / 19 : 00–07 : 30)

Every other or every third; 6 shifts per 6-week schedule required

Required to

PICU and Peds (6-hour orientation provided)

Travelers

Equipment & Special Features

Bubble CPAP (preferred)

MilkTracker, Centralized Milk Handling

EPIC (with scanner), SBAR communication

3 years NICU minimum

Allowed as long as unit needs are met
