Position Title : Transportation Coordinator
Funding Source : General Fund
Reports to : Director of Operations
Qualifications :
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Previous experience in school transportation, logistics, or related field required.
- Knowledge of state and federal student transportation laws and regulations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) required; experience with transportation routing software preferred.
Required Competencies & Skills :
Strong organizational and time management skills.Ability to train and support bus drivers and transportation staff.Strong problem-solving skills, particularly in high-pressure situations.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with staff, parents, and external vendors.Ability to manage schedules, and routing logistics efficiently.Commitment to student safety and customer service.Position Description : The Transportation Coordinator will oversee and manage all aspects of the school transportation program to ensure the safe and efficient transport of Detroit Academy of Arts and Sciences students. This full-time, salary position is ideal for a detail-oriented, safety-conscious professional who can balance operational logistics with strong leadership and communication skills.
Key Responsibilities
Coordinate daily bus routes and schedules to ensure efficient, timely, and safe transportation of students.Support, and evaluate bus drivers and transportation staff.Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local transportation regulations, including vehicle inspections and driver certifications.Respond promptly to parent, student, and staff inquiries or concerns regarding transportation.Monitor transportation operations, including fuel, maintenance, and staffing.Serve as liaison between the school, parents, transportation staff, and contracted service providers.Track and report incidents, accidents, or safety concerns, ensuring follow-up and corrective action.Oversee vehicle maintenance schedules and maintain accurate transportation records.Develop and implement procedures for emergency situations and inclement weather.Maintain confidentiality of all student and staff information.Other duties as assigned.Work Schedule & Duration :
Full-time, salaried position.Work year and hours of employment shall be established by the District.Physical Requirements : Light Work : Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and / or up to 10 pounds of force as frequently as needed to move objects; Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pushing and pulling.
Terms of Employment : Salary benefits shall be paid consistent with the District's approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the District.
Evaluation : Performance of this job will be evaluated by the Director of Operations in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of personnel.
