job_description.job_card.job_descriptionProactively analyze areas of risk and participate in mitigation efforts at the local level. Review and investigate high risk incident reports that cause injury to the patient, visitor, employees or damage to property. Identify, exam and respond to risk-related issues and complaints involving employees and medical staff. Assist in quality risk-related investigations to promote safe patient care, staff safety and identifying potential liability. Participate in local meetings to promote patient safety, and risk reduction. Recommend and review applicable policies, procedures and operational plans. Monitor product recalls, FDA warnings and coordinate response by responsible parties / departments. Coordinate disclosures and communications with patients / families related to patient events and unexpected outcomes. Assist with or coordinate post-mortem conferences. Remain available to staff to answer questions related to policies, consents, and risk related inquiries. Ensure compliance with mandatory reporting to local, state, federal and regulatory agencies as it relates to patient safety. Review event reporting system and analyze entries in order to address risk, patient safety or quality concerns, identify trends, and actively collaborate with involved local individuals and / or departments. Interact with internal and external customers regarding patient safety culture / concerns and observe for hazard risk reduction opportunities through active rounding, service recovery and other strategies. Assist with planning and executing patient safety and educational activities by local teams and / or departments. Facilitate or participate in events or situations that require Root Cause Analysis (RCA), Process Improvement (PI) or Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA). Propose, recommending and implementing solutions and resolutions to risk-related issues and events; following up on the implementation and impact of proposed solutions and resolutions. Participate in multidisciplinary teams, standing work groups, councils and committees for the purpose of evaluating and improving organizational risk. Participate in patient safety rounds and risk focused tracer activity. Assist with local patient grievances to assure they are addressed in a timely manner and in compliance with the CMS grievance process. Performs clerical support activities Associate's degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school in health care related field; and one year related experience and / or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Strong computer skills required (Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, Visio, report writing, including using databases)

General Purpose of Job : The Driscoll Children's Hospital Rio Grande Valley (DCHRGV) Risk Manager assists the Driscoll Children's Hospital Risk Management Department with the development and maintenance of the enterprise risk management program at DCHRGV in a manner that fulfills the mission & strategic goals of the organization. This position serves as the DCHRGV Risk Manager and Patient Safety Officer working under the authority and supervision of the Driscoll Children's Hospital main campus in Corpus Christi.

Insurance, and Claims :
- Maintain knowledge of Driscoll's insurance programs and assist with annual renewal process. Managing claims against the organization's insurance program; interfacing with legal defense counsel and insurance company claims representatives.
- Manages claims and lawsuits, coordination of information and discovery requests, interfacing with legal defense counsel and insurance company claims representatives.
- Coordinate and review subpoenas and other requests for information and advise on disclosures.
- Maintain litigation files and assist with document / evidence review and other information to be used in the preparation of litigation, claims and departmental, facility, executive and / or board reports.
- Issue litigation holds and sequester items for litigation or claims.
