Remembering Basketball Great and Former Stanford Law Lecturer Alvin Attles, Jr., 1936 – 2024
On March 8, 2024, the world bid farewell to Alvin Attles, Jr., a towering figure both on and off the basketball court. Known for his remarkable career with the Golden State Warriors, Attles later distinguished himself as a lecturer at Stanford Law School, where he co-taught the institution's inaugural Sports Law course.
Born in 1936, Alvin Attles, Jr. first made his mark in the sporting world as a player, and later as a coach, for the Golden State Warriors. His influence extended beyond the court, garnering admiration for his deep commitment to the sport and his community.
In addition to his basketball legacy, Attles was revered in academic circles. Many Stanford Law School students remember him fondly as their co-teacher. His tenure at Stanford was marked by his dedication to educating the next generation of sports law professionals.
