Job Summary
The Unit Safety Manager will be responsible for reducing claims and lost-time injuries by providing safety and workers' compensation support to local units. Responsibilities include training, site visits, inspections, policy and procedure implementation, communications, and client-compliant safety practices. This will be accomplished through routine meetings, conference calls, and on-site visits.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Ensure units have effective on-going safety awareness programs to promote a safe work environment.
- Comply with all client administrative and incident investigation programs (Safety Nets).
- Provide training to managers to follow safe work practices and maintain a safe working environment through training, presentations, conference calls, and safety materials distribution.
- Ensure local management receive monthly status reports.
- Train local management in proper methods of investigation and inspection formats; ensure compliance with safety laws and regulations; fire evacuation; and self-inspections as required by the client.
- Conduct "Safety" inspections of local facilities for hazards and perform quarterly safety inspections.
- Follow OSHA, DOT, and EPA regulations as defined by federal, state, and local laws, and Compass Support Services and client policies / procedures.
- Maintain OSHA recordkeeping; determine reportable illnesses and injuries with assistance from corporate Risk Management; prepare reports for campus sites and annual reports.
- Monitor workplace hazards and take corrective action; focus on hazards related to manifests and central accumulation areas.
- Monitor and report on workers' compensation claim trends and develop strategies to address injury management.
- Coordinate and implement successful return-to-work processes to minimize absence from work.
Qualifications
Education and / or experience : Bachelor's degree, equivalent degree, or related experience. 1–3 years' experience as a Safety Manager or in a related role within a small company or supporting a business unit.Benefits and Additional Information
