Assistant Director Of Finance
The Department of Statistics is dedicated to research and student training in statistics, both theory and applications, and in probability. Since the founding of the department in 1948, the department has evolved into a preeminent center for statistical research, top-ranked in the United States, with our doctoral program ranked number one by the US National Research Council.
The Program in Data Science is the new interdisciplinary undergraduate major in Data Science administered by the Department of Statistics. The program launched in September 2022, offering a B.S. in Data Science, a B.A. in Data Science and Social Systems, and a B.A. in Data Science for Artistic and Cultural Analysis. The program's mission is to provide students with an analytical and quantitative foundation for tackling data driven problems in science, industry, and society.
The Department of Statistics is seeking an Assistant Director of Finance. The incumbent will work under minimal supervision of the Director of Finance and Operations and must possess and demonstrate a positive outlook on continuous process improvement efforts while maintaining a team-based and customer-focused mindset. It is critical that this position exhibit the abilities to practice sound judgment and decision-making, effective written & oral communication, strong attention to detail and respectful relationship management. This position must also exhibit a strong desire to continuously learn new and unfamiliar business topics, policies and procedures as they relate to the to the role the ability to translate this information into operational successes will be critical.
This position acts as a liaison between the PIs, funding agencies, the Office of Sponsored Research, the H&S Finance Office, and other offices as necessary for the management and financial oversight of several complex research grants, contracts, gifts, and designated funds. The Assistant Director of Finance will also assist the DFO with budgeting and forecasting, management, utilization, and reporting of departmental funds. The position also oversees two administrative associates.
This position will be based on the Stanford campus and will be considered for an option of telecommuting (hybrid of working on-site and off-site), subject to operational need.

The expected pay range for this position is $116,995 to $135,302 per annum. Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
