Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med / Surg Tele position requiring an NM or compact RN license and telemetry skills.

Responsibilities

  • Work in a hospital Med / Surg Telemetry unit at a Level I Trauma, Teaching, and Children's Hospital
  • Patient ratio is generally 1 : 5 with potential for 1 : 6 due to high capacity
  • Travelers are expected to float to MS / Tele, PCU, and related lower acuity units, as well as ED to manage ratios
  • IV starts and telemetry monitoring required
  • 12-hour day shifts (7 : 00 to 19 : 30), with 36 or 48-hour weekly contracts available
  • Cerner EMR is used; related experience preferred but not required
  • No on-call responsibilities
  • First-time travelers are accepted for this unit
  • Must work at least 2 weekends in a 4-week period, subject to unit needs
  • Must wear black scrubs, which are not provided by the facility
  • Overtime must be pre-approved and is rarely granted
  • Personal transportation is required for assignments at certain locations
  • RTO (request for time off) greater than 10 days requires approval; preferred to keep RTO to 7 days or less unless for PCU (10 days)
  • Holiday time off is restricted to one holiday bundle per contract
  • Drug screening required within 30 days of start date
  • Mandatory online modules completed during orientation, with up to 4 hours billable
  • Perm employees may return as travelers after a 12-month break

    • Requirements

  • Current NM or compact state RN license; license can be pending at time of consideration
  • Minimum 1 year of recent Med / Surg Tele experience required
  • Active ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications are required
  • COVID-19 vaccination required; medical or religious exemptions accepted with proper documentation
  • No locals accepted within a 75-mile radius of the facility
  • Driver’s license required; if not available, a written transportation plan is necessary
  • RQI certifications are not accepted
