Base pay range

$304,116.80 / yr - $380,182.40 / yr

San Mateo County Health's Department of Psychiatry at the San Mateo Medical Center is looking for a 30-hour per week (0.75 FTE) Adult Psychiatrist to join our core medical staff in the Psychiatric Emergency Services (PES) on the night shift (5 : 00 PM - 8 : 00 AM).

Compensation :

Salary : Inpatient psychiatrists receive a 10% premium over the base pay listed above. An additional 5% salary increase is provided for each qualifying board certification (up to two boards). Salary is prorated for part-time. Night-shift differential : All psychiatrists receive a 12% shift differential for work between 5 PM and 8 AM.

Staff psychiatrists may work in the psychiatric emergency department, locked acute inpatient unit, medical-surgical and long-term care floors in a consultation-liaison role, and / or at a long-term subacute psychiatric facility. Specific duties and schedule depend on current need.

San Mateo Medical Center is the County of San Mateo's public hospital and clinics health care system. The main hospital campus includes 30 inpatient psych beds and a 24-hour psychiatric emergency unit, plus a medical emergency department, 70 med-surg / ICU beds, and 30 rehab beds.

The Psychiatric Residency Training Program is based at the Medical Center, and staff psychiatrists are invited to join the faculty and participate in training residents and psychology interns. Typical work assignments

• In Psychiatric Emergency Services, the emergency psychiatrist collaborates with nursing staff and the medical emergency department to evaluate and treat patients presenting with emergency / urgent psychiatric and / or behavioral problems, often with medical problems and substance use.
• On the acute psychiatric inpatient unit, direct care of 6-9 patients per day, and supervision of a resident team covering up to 6 patients.
• On the medical-surgical and long-term care units, the C / L psychiatrist is on duty 4-6 hours per day. Duties include inpatient consultations, collaboration with attending physicians, admitting patients to the acute psychiatric unit, evaluating capacity, applying / lifting legal holds, testifying at legal hearings, and making conservatorship referrals.
• At the long-term subacute psychiatric hospital, ongoing care for approximately 30 non-acute patients, including medication management, psychotherapy / behavioral management, and collaboration with internal medicine for non-psychiatric issues.
• Train and supervise interns and residents; provide clinical supervision to licensed and professional staff in other disciplines.

Education and Experience

Any combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical qualification : Board Certification or completion of an accredited psychiatric residency program.
