Nurse Resident - Med Surg - Flagstaff

The Nurse Resident is responsible for providing and supervising direct and indirect total nursing care responsibilities to identified age-specific groups. Utilizes the nursing process (assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating) in achieving the goals of the nursing department. Nurse Residents will be under the direct supervision of a preceptor for all principal duties and responsibilities during the training program with eventual transition to independent practice after successful training program completion. Upon completion of the yearlong (12 months) nurse resident program the nurse resident will transition to the RN job description.\n\nResponsibilities\n\nPatient Care\n

• Assesses the needs and conditions of assigned patients by gathering relevant patient health information.\n
• Identifies outcomes, develops a plan of care individualized to the patient and / or situation, and implements the identified plan appropriate for the attainment of the expected outcomes.\n
• Assesses patient's progress toward the attainment of outcomes and effectively revises / updates diagnoses, outcomes and plans of care as appropriate.\n
• Contributes to patient experience by providing safe, high quality & patient centered care (as described above) and by respecting patients privacy, and treating all patients,family members and guests, as well as other associates, with dignity, respect, and compassion.\n
• Evaluates patient conditions frequently and adapts plan of care appropriately.\n
• Performs aseptic techniques by maintaining a sterile field while using principles of disinfection, sterilization, and infection control.\n
• Maintains infection prevention standards.\n
• Collaborates with physicians and other health care professionals.\n
• Assists as necessary with procedures and transportation throughout the hospital per hospital and departmental policies and procedures.\n\nEducation\n
• Participates in creating and sustaining a learning environment supported by evidenced based practice and research.\n
• Focuses on personal development areas, engaging in professional / collegial interactions with peers and students.\n
• Work collaboratively with peers and other health care providers, and participating in ongoing in-service and educational seminars.\n
• Participates in the mentoring and education of colleagues and students.\n\nCompliance / Safety\n
• Adheres to regulatory and organizational standards affecting patient care and safety as well as all hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Practices in a safe and cost effective manner.\n
• Stays current and complies with slate and federal regulations / statutes and company policies that impact the employees area of responsibility.\n
• If required for position, ensures all certifications and / or licenses are up-to-date and valid prior to expiration dates.\n
• Completes all company mandatory modules and required job specific training in the specified time frame.\n
• Maintains timely and accurate documentation of assessments, interventions, EMR entries, and patient responses.\n
• Responsible for reporting any safety related incident in a timely fashion through the safety event reporting tool; attends all safety related training programs; performs work in a safe manner; monitors work environment for possible safety issues and ensures others are also performing work in a safe manner.\n\nQualifications\n\nEducation\n\nAssociate Degree in Nursing- Required\n\nMust graduate from a BSN program within 6 years of hire into an RN position\n\nCertification & Licensures\n\nActive, unrestricted, Arizona RN License or valid, participating compact license - Required\n\nBLS - Required within 7 days of hire\n\nACLS - Required within 2 months of hire\n\nNIHSS- Required within 2 months of hire\n\nEmployee will obtain and maintain appropriate clinical competencies for the roles assigned by their departmental leader.\n\nExperience\n\nMust be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing.\n\nMust have less than one year of experience.\n\nMust be graduating in the next year or have graduated within the past year.\n\nHealthcare is a rapidly changing environment and technology is integrated into almost all aspects of patient care. Computers and other electronic devices are utilized across the organization and throughout each department. Colleagues must have an understanding of computers, and competence in using computers and basic software programs.\n\nCALL REQUIRED : \n
