Coordinator of Interpretive Services
POSITION SUMMARY
The Coordinator of Interpretive Services facilitates language access services at Craig Hospital to ensure effective, ethical, and culturally competent communication for all patients and families. This role oversees spoken language, American Sign Language (ASL), and document translation needs by coordinating internal staff, contracted interpreters, and language service vendors. The coordinator also manages the hospital’s interpretive devices, provides training to staff, and serves as the primary liaison between patients, families, staff, and external language service providers.

Rate of Pay : $24.99 - $35.99 per hour based on experience
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
- Licensure / Certification / Registrations : Certified Healthcare Interpreter (CHI), National Board of Certification for Medical Interpreters (NBCMI), or Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) certification preferred.
- Education : High school diploma or equivalency required, bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred.
- Experience : Prior experience in language access coordination, healthcare administration, or related field strongly preferred. Familiarity with rehabilitation or hospital settings a plus. Experience conducting staff training and / or education.
- Skills & Abilities : Bilingual or multilingual fluency. Ability to successfully handle multiple priorities and schedule accordingly while meeting established deadlines. Must be able to successfully and effectively communicate with a variety of personnel. Problem solve complex medical, legal, and discharge issues. Effectively manage conflict between family members. Flexible in changing discharge planning due to insurance denials. Able to maintain a high degree of accuracy, dependability, and strong attention to detail both mechanically and technically. Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the position. Computer skills — Epic, Microsoft Office.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Coordination & Scheduling
Coordinate interpreter scheduling in collaboration with therapists, physicians, and staff to maximize the use of contracted interpreters while maintaining cost efficiency.Serve as the primary point of contact for language access requests across the hospital.Hire, onboard, and maintain credentialing for PRN interpreters through contracted agencies.Vendor & Contract Management
Maintain and evaluate contracts with interpreter service agencies to ensure quality service delivery and competitive pricing.Cultivate and manage relationships with language vendors and community resources.Device & Technology Oversight
Maintain an inventory of Pocketalk devices, video interpreting iPads, and other interpretive technology.Train staff in proper use and troubleshooting of interpretive devices.Oversee deployment and ongoing management of video interpretation resources for micro-interactions and personal conversations.Education & Training
Provide training and guidance to hospital departments on best practices for using interpretive services and technology.Educate patients and families on available interpretive resources during admission and throughout their hospital stay.Compliance & Quality Assurance
Ensure adherence to HIPAA and patient confidentiality regulations in all aspects of language services.Develop and monitor quality assurance processes to ensure accuracy, professionalism, and ethical standards in interpretation and translation services.Participate in or lead research projects related to improving the use of interpretive services within a rehabilitation setting.Administrative & Translation Support
Perform administrative functions including record-keeping, scheduling, and report generation.Assist with translation of documents and materials, either internally or by coordinating external translation services.Support interdisciplinary team conferences by providing or coordinating interpreter services.This job description is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties.
