THIS POSITION REQUIRES WEEKLY TRAVEL

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

The OSP Fielder is responsible for performing field data collection, site surveys, and route verification to support the design and construction of outside plant (OSP) telecommunications infrastructure projects. This role ensures accurate documentation of existing conditions and proposed construction routes to enable efficient and compliant engineering designs.

WHAT YOU GET TO DO

  • Conduct field surveys of proposed OSP routes, including aerial, underground, and buried facilities.
  • Collect and document accurate field data using GPS devices, tablets, survey apps, and / or hand sketches.
  • Identify and record existing utilities, poles, conduit paths, manholes, handholes, and other relevant infrastructure.
  • Take clear site photos with detailed notations for design and permitting purposes.
  • Assess field conditions for potential conflicts, constructability issues, and required special equipment.
  • Communicate effectively with Project Managers, Engineers, and Designers regarding field findings and recommendations.
  • Ensure all field data is organized and submitted within project timelines and standards.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, utility records, and construction plans.
  • Verify pole ownership, measurements, and clearance heights where applicable.
  • Coordinate with utility companies, municipalities, and property owners as needed to gain site access or information.
  • Adhere to all safety policies and procedures while performing fieldwork in diverse environments and weather conditions.

WHAT WILL HELP YOU STAND OUT

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate degree in Engineering Technology, Telecommunications, Construction Management, or related field preferred.
  • 1+ year of experience in OSP fielding, utility surveying, or construction preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, maps, and utility records.
  • Proficiency with GPS data collection devices, tablets, and basic Microsoft Office tools.
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and manage multiple field assignments.
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record; willingness to travel daily to field locations.

  • Must be able to travel to and from job locations, which may vary depending on customer and contract.
  • May be required to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to pass a background check, drug screen, or other job-related pre-hire screenings related to the job.
  • This position involves daily fieldwork with occasional office work for data upload and reporting. Travel to different project sites is required, including rural, suburban, and urban environments.
