Job Description\n

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN to join a Med / Surg Float Pool in an acute care Level 1 trauma setting, requiring a SD or compact RN license and strong critical care skills.

\n \n Responsibilities\n

  • Work in the Central Resource Pool covering both a 30-bed med / surg unit and an 8-bed progressive care unit within an acute care hospital
  • Patient population includes diagnoses such as pneumonia, COPD, CHF, COVID-19, pulmonary embolism, and complex respiratory cases
  • Procedures include oxygen therapy, IV medications, moderate sedation during bronchoscopies, chest tubes, tracheostomies, post-op care, non-invasive and mechanical ventilation, and cardiac monitoring
  • Nurse-to-patient ratios : 1 : 3 in pulmonary acute for IMC RNs, 1 : 4-5 on day shifts, 1 : 5-6 on night shifts
  • Uses Epic for documentation, Alaris IV pumps, Acudose medication system, and various respiratory support equipment
  • Straight night shifts with 12-hour scheduling, every other weekend and holiday required
  • Floating to med-surg and IMC / progressive care units as needed, with travelers prioritized for reassignment
  • Engage in care of a diverse patient population with opportunities to develop critical care and respiratory skills
  • Interdisciplinary collaboration with case managers, social workers, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, and physical therapists
  • Comprehensive orientation provided, including competency validation with nurse educators and preceptor-guided shifts
  • Blue scrubs required as dress code
  • Participation in unit or hospital committees and opportunities for professional development available
  • Supportive team environment emphasizing high-quality care and recognition of high performers
  • \n \n Requirements\n

  • Active SD or compact state RN license required
  • Minimum 1 year of recent med / surg experience required
  • Current BLS and ACLS (AHA) certifications required
  • Proficiency with Bipap, Cpap, Heated High Flow oxygen, oxygen titration, moderate sedation, telemetry, and general med / surg care
  • Experience with Epic EMR preferred
  • Must disclose prior employment at any Sanford Health location; a 6-month gap from prior employment is required
