We are seeking a Montessori Teacher Assistant or Montessori Intern to join our dynamic team at Central Montessori School. We have been open since 2007 and have between 145 and 150 students in our three buildings. Our campus is located in Richmond's Churchill neighborhood, within walking distance of many beautiful parks and the James River. We are a full-day and year-round model; all staff members have a one-hour lunch break every day.
The ideal candidate should possess a genuine passion for working with children, have prior experience in childcare, and be strongly willing to learn and develop their understanding of the Montessori education philosophy.
This role presents an excellent opportunity for individuals with a deep interest in Montessori education, as we offer the opportunity to undergo lead Montessorian certification training.
Our program serves students between the ages of 6 months and 13 years. Candidates must be open to working in all levels of our program. We also have a dual language program with many Spanish-speaking students and staff in our community. Spanish language skills are highly appreciated.
Responsibilities :
Support the lead teacher in creating and maintaining the classroom environment in alignment with Montessori principles.
Work closely with students, providing guidance and assistance in their learning activities.
Collaborate with the lead teacher to maintain the Montessori classroom environment and support students while the lead educator gives lessons.
Observe and monitor student progress, communicate with lead teachers where additional support may be needed.
Cultivate a positive and respectful classroom atmosphere that encourages independence, autonomy and learning.
Assist in classroom management and positive discipline, employing Montessori-inspired techniques.
Foster transparent communication with parents through the lead and administration, delivering student performance and progress updates.
Participate in staff meetings, workshops, and training sessions to enhance teaching skills and deepen knowledge of Montessori education.
Qualifications :
Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field (preferred).
Prior experience working with children in an educational setting for a year or more
Familiarity with Montessori education and / or willingness to learn
Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
Patience, adaptability, and a sincere passion for working with children.
Ability to collaborate effectively within a team setting.
