Overview
Staff Structural Designer - Power at Black & Veatch (employee-owned).

Responsibilities
- Functions in a project engineering technician capacity and supports engineering and design teams by developing and modifying technical deliverables.
- Apply foundational engineering principles and established design practices to create moderately complex design concepts and solutions.
- Utilize digital tools and design software (e.g., CAD, BIM, 3D modeling) to create, modify, and maintain technical documentation, drawings, and project deliverables.
- Provide technical guidance and may offer direction to other engineering professionals and technicians to ensure quality and consistency across project outputs.
- Apply knowledge of standards, systems, document control, departmental guides, applicable codes and Black & Veatch policies and procedures.
- Review project requirements to determine the correct format and content of deliverables; ensure compliance with codes and standards suitable for the project.
- Coordinate with other design group personnel to review and exchange project information; may support field activities.
- Mentor and provide guidance to lesser experienced engineering technicians as part of career development.
Qualifications
Ideal candidate will have 3-8 years of related work experience; experience in structural design is required.Experience with electronic design applications (CAD or equivalent). Preferred software : Bentley OpenBuildings Experience, AutoDesk AutoCad, Bentley MicroStation 2D / 3D, and Bluebeam.Diploma or certificate, or Associate Degree in Drafting or Engineering Design Technology preferred; typically a minimum of 5 years related work experience.Good knowledge of engineering standards, systems, document control, and Black & Veatch policies and procedures; ability to interpret engineering deliverables.Basic knowledge of construction and constructability principles; basic knowledge of procurement and contract administration.Ability to work in a team, manage time, and communicate effectively with internal clients and stakeholders.Why Black & Veatch

Locations include Sugar Land, TX and Houston, TX; salary ranges observed include typical engineering technician levels with market variance.
