As an Associate Underwriting Counsel trainee, you will gain experience in real estate and title insurance law, with exposure to underwriting, claims, and compliance. You will work in partnership with different areas of the Company to gain knowledge in legal research, risk analysis, policy coverages, and relationship building. This is a fully remote position with minimal travel.
Responsibilities
Attend training sessions, workshops, meetings and mentorship to enhance knowledge of underwriting practices and legal considerations. Engage in independent study to acquire and deepen job-related knowledge and competencies beyond structured training program.
Conduct research on relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards impacting underwriting practices. Provide analysis and guidance on federal and state statutes and regulations, court rulings, and opinion letters.
Participate in reviewing and analyzing legal documents, agent issues, underwriting and claims.
Work closely with the underwriting and claims teams to assess legal risks associated with potential transactions.
Collaborate with internal teams to ensure effective communication and understanding of legal implications in underwriting decisions.
Ensure adherence to company policies, legal requirements, and industry standards in the underwriting process.
Provide support to the underwriting, claims, and compliance teams in various tasks, including data analysis, risk assessment, and file management.
Qualifications
Education / Experience : J.D. degree from an accredited college or university; three to four years related experience and / or training in title insurance or real estate industry preferred.
Computer Skills
Proficient in Microsoft Suite and internet research
Certificates and Licenses
Bar License preferred
