Work location : Abilene, TX

Overview

As a Fusion Splicer at KMM, you will perform single and ribbon fusion splicing, route and label fiber systems, and conduct Tier 1 / Tier 2 certification using OTDR and power meters. You'll support documentation and QA efforts while ensuring all fiber installations meet project specifications and safety protocols.

KMM is seeking a skilled Fusion Splicer II / Field Engineer II to execute precision fiber splicing, routing, and testing across data center and inter-building environments. This role supports Tier 1 and Tier 2 certification, documentation, and QA tracking while ensuring all fiber systems meet performance and labeling standards. Candidates will work closely with lead splicers and field teams to maintain quality and safety across nationwide deployments.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Execute fusion splices (single and ribbon) with precision and cleanliness

Label, route, and terminate fiber in trays, panels, and enclosures

Conduct Tier 1 / Tier 2 certification and verify polarity

Perform splicing, termination, and testing of fiber optic cables, ribbon and single fiber optic cables.

Ensure all splicing meets quality standards and project specifications.

Operate fusion splicing equipment and related fiber optic tools.

Conduct fiber characterization, troubleshooting, and testing with OTDR and power meters.

Maintain accurate splicing documentation, labeling, and as-built records.

Follow all site safety procedures, OSHA regulations, and company protocols

Support lead splicer in field reporting and QA tracking

Qualifications

3-5 years fiber splicing experience

Experience in fiber splicing, ribbon splicing and single cable splicing

Familiar with data center labeling and cable management standards

Hands-on proficiency with splicers, cleavers, and OTDR equipment

Strong knowledge of fusion splicing, OTDR testing, and fiber optic standards.

Ability to read and interpret splicing diagrams, schematics, and work orders

Excellent communication and organizational skills

Ability to travel nationwide
