Responsibilities Work in an acute care hospital pediatric unit with 7 beds Care for pediatric patients ages 0-18 including med / surg overflow, NICU feeder / grower overflow, surgical, respiratory, diabetic, seizure, and failure to thrive cases Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1 : 2-3 Night shifts are available with 12-hour shift lengths Self-scheduling based on seniority, with weekend shifts required every other or every third weekend Float to Maternity / Newborn Nursery, NICU, or 1 : 1 sitting as census requires Uses Epic for charting Must be first to float when needed Remote telemetry monitors in use, but RNs are not required to read or interpret strips Work closely with another RN as there are typically only two nurses per shift without a designated charge nurse A pediatrician is in house daily until 5pm and on call at night Respiratory therapists are in house 24 / 7 providing support for respiratory equipment Scrub color is flexible and any color may be worn Team-oriented, close-knit work environment with thematic rooms and supportive atmosphere Two 12-hour shifts of orientation provided Holiday coverage for two holidays per year is required Unit is locked and features zoo themed decor, play rooms, and child-friendly amenities Attributes contributing to success include strong communication and independence Requirements Active RN license (State or Compact) is required and must be obtained prior to consideration Minimum 2 years of recent pediatric or med / surg nursing experience is required Current BLS and PALS certifications required Experience titrating drips required; Tylenol and Keppra experience required, Insulin is preferred but not mandatory Must be able to provide two references : one supervisor from the last 12 months, and one peer or supervisor from the last 3 years Familiarity with CPAP, high flow, and nasal cannula devices preferred Candidates may not be employed full time, part time, or PRN with any facility associated with CommonSpirit, including CHI and Dignity, within the past year Candidates must live at least 50 miles from the facility RTO requests must be submitted up front and are limited to 7 days or less per 13-week contract Benefits High Pay and Bonuses Medical, Dental and Vision Insurance with Day 1 Options 401(k) Plan Weekly Payroll Deposit Free Online CEUs Generous Housing Allowance Travel and Licensure Reimbursements Non-taxed Per Diem and Subsidy Traveler Rewards and Discounts American Traveler Job ID P-599064.
