Transportation Supervisor
The supervisor oversees, guides and coordinates the Shipping and Transportation Program, and supports the plant safety goals (SQF, GMP's, etc.) Control and Record inbound / outbound truck activity, perform additional transportation related activities as assigned by management. Knowledge of freight movement both TL & LTL required. Driver scheduling and routing experience required.
The individual is responsible for overseeing the day to day operation of the shipping department. They will communicate direction to union hourly employees, oversee the progress of order fulfillment for both fresh and frozen product and review order status for deficiencies throughout the evening. This individual will also serve as a key point of contact for communicating issues between plants and other depots.
The individual will serve as the key point of contact for the transportation drivers and be responsible for addressing issues as they arise. They will also be responsible for communicating issues with the manager in a timely fashion.
The individual will be responsible for cultivating relationships with Alpha Baking 3PL network. They will develop and submit Request for Proposal (RFP) for Alpha Baking's frozen distribution network.
Responsibilities
- Supervise transportation personnel.
- Responsible for maintaining dock operations, including cleanliness, to allow for continuous shipping operation.
- Follow, maintain and evaluate trailer timing, transport driver timing and dock status.
- Maintain a good working relationship with all other departments.
- Train and cross-train shipping operators to be able to scan, load, unload trailers to minimize disruption due to unforeseen circumstances.
- Required to come in during off shifts if needed for breakdowns and must be available to be contacted during off hours.
- Complete daily paperwork including trailer inspections, schedules, logs and all other pertinent documented information.
- Ensure all employees, visitors, contractors and all other employees on the assigned shifts are following all Company and OSHA rules relating to safety, GMP's, security and PPE policies and guidelines to keep the plant in compliance.
- Ensure all Transport drivers are following DOT regulations.
- Responsible for keeping the dock and all associated shipping areas clean and in good condition.
- Administer disciplinary action in accordance with Company policy when needed.
- Notify the Plant, Transportation, Shipping and Production Manager in a timely manner of all pertinent issues.
- Notify the Quality Assurance Manager of any potential food safety risk.
- Communicated and administer all Company policies and procedures consistently.
- Work extra hours or extra day if necessary.
- Commit to a continuous improvement work team environment.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
- Develop, analyze, and report 3PL Transportation metrics / cost.
- Manage Request for Proposal (RFP) tracking per carrier bid and routing guide performance and compliance across network.
- Develop and manage domestic carrier network to deliver excellent service to our customers
- Bring in new carrier partners to strengthen transportation network
- Maintain carrier files (insurance certs, etc.)
Working Relationship
