Or Bachelor's Degree substituted with 4 years of military Navy service or completed Maritime Trade School / Apprenticeship with 3 years waterfront Quality / Engineering Technical Writing or Shipboard System Testing experience. Alternative substitution : 6 years waterfront Quality / Engineering Technical Writing or Shipboard System Testing experience may substitute for the degree requirements. Base Access : Must be able to obtain and maintain access to U.S. Military bases and shipyards. Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance. Job Training : Technical Engineering, Non-SUBSAFE, SUBSAFE, Scope of Certification and NAVSEA Standards for shipboard work. Broad knowledge in shipyard, marine, and commercial technical work practices, inspection and testing methods. Broad knowledge of Navy ship repair processes and procedures. Knowledge of OSHA Regulations for Shipyard Employment, NAVSEA Standards, JFMM, NAVSHIPS Tech Manuals (NSTM), DOD Standards, Military Specifications, SUBSAFE requirements, and related standards; ability to communicate requirements clearly to a broad audience. Engineering and Technology : application of engineering science to design and production of goods and services. Mathematics : arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications. Production and Processing : knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and related techniques. Safety Analysis – conduct Job Hazard Analysis for tasks. Active Listening, Critical Thinking, Writing, Instructing, Judgment and Decision Making, and computer proficiency (Microsoft Office). Reading Comprehension, Written Communication, Oral Comprehension and Oral Expression. Problem Sensitivity, Category Flexibility, Visual Color Discrimination, Deductive Reasoning. Physical requirements : ability to access ships, small craft, and submarines; operate in confined spaces and industrial environments; maintain composure under high-pressure schedules.
Overview
Technical Writer I role at Epsilon Systems Solutions, Inc. in Portsmouth, VA.
This is a full-time position.
Responsibilities
- Provides daily technical support to the Management team.
- Assists in the development of written procedures for Safety, Hull, Mechanical, and Electrical Trades work and tasks.
- Assists in development of safety, quality control and inspection procedures for inclusion in test and inspection plans for production Work-Packages.
- Assists to define test standards and specifies test equipment associated with requirements established in test and inspection plans and / or Technical Work Documents (TWDs).
- Works with customer QA / Safety representatives to establish inspection and acceptance criteria.
- Reviews QA / Safety control requirements with customer representatives to ensure compliance with requirements.
- Reviews contractually required quality / safety documentation for accuracy and completeness for project / job / contract completion.
- Reviews Technical Work Documents and Condition Reports to ensure work is performed within NAVSEA requirements and specifications; supports development of BOMs for changes.
- Recommend and assist in implementing changes to Technical Work Documents and Internal Process Instructions to improve clarity and first-time success.
- Review and assist in resolving SUBSAFE, DSS / SOC and LEVEL 1 issues.
- Provide technical engineering support for all contracts and assist leadership to meet schedule and budget goals.
Non-Supervisory . Provide support for production team members as assigned related to the technical requirements.
