The City of O'Fallon is seeking a motivated and community-minded Code Enforcement Officer to join our team. In this key position, you'll play a vital role in maintaining the safety, quality, and appearance of our neighborhoods and public spaces. Key Responsibilities :
Enforce city codes and ordinances related to zoning, property maintenance, signage, and public nuisance issues.
Conduct routine field inspections of residential, commercial, and institutional properties.
Investigate and respond to citizen complaints and council member concerns.
Issue warnings, notices, and summonses for violations and follow up to ensure compliance.
Patrol assigned areas, conduct neighborhood sweeps, and support legal enforcement efforts.
Collaborate with other departments and assist residents in understanding and complying with city regulations.
Perform after-hours inspections during emergencies and participate in snow removal operations.
Train new inspectors and assist with rental occupancy and minor building inspections.
Minimum Qualifications :
High school diploma or GED required.
1–2 years of relevant experience in code enforcement, inspection, or related field.
Valid Missouri driver's license or ability to obtain one.
Ability to obtain ICC Property Maintenance and Housing Inspector Certification within one (1) year of hire.
Proficient in Microsoft Office, mobile technology, and database entry.
Ability to obtain Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) clearance.
Knowledge & Skills :
Understanding of zoning, health, safety, nuisance abatement, and property maintenance codes.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills-able to work with diverse groups and resolve conflicts professionally.
Able to prepare detailed reports and present courtroom testimony when necessary.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently in the field.
