Assistant Nursing Director (RN) – Labor & Delivery and Mother / Baby - Relocation Offered!

General Summary of Position Are you an experienced Labor & Delivery nurse looking for an opportunity to formally lead AND still want to work clinically with patients? The Assistant Nursing Director role is a great entry level leadership position that allows you to remain close to the bedside and serve as a front-line nurse leader. In collaboration with the Mother / Baby and Labor & Delivery Unit Nursing Directors, the Assistant Nursing Director is responsible for the leadership and management of the Labor & Delivery and Mother / Baby Units at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital. This role offers the chance to work directly with patients as well as direct and coordinate the nursing and patient care delivery of the unit-based professional and support personnel; two 12-hour shifts per week working directly with patients and 2 8-hour shifts per week of leadership and administrative responsibilities. Unit Highlights MedStar Georgetown's Perinatal Department consists of a Labor & Delivery / Inpatient Antepartum Suite along with a Mother-Baby Couplet Postpartum Unit. Perinatal nurses assess the mother and neonate in a family-centered, holistic environment that supports the new family during this time of changing needs. MedStar Georgetown is a regional referral center for high-risk mothers and infants, and enjoys a supportive and cooperative relationship with our outstanding Level IV NICU to provide excellent continuity of care for these families. Perinatal nurses collaborate with parenting services, antepartum / postpartum patient educators and lactation specialists to provide comprehensive patient and family education. Our diverse patient population includes both medically complex and uncomplicated patients. Perinatal nurses enjoy participating in collaborative governance at the unit and hospital level and are encouraged to attend a wide variety of educational opportunities, including AWHONN regional and national conferences. Key Responsibilities The Assistant Director of Nursing is a member of MedStar Health entity-based Division of Nursing and leadership team. Supports and collaborates with the Director of Nursing in providing leadership and oversight for a specific unit / department. Directs and coordinates the nursing and patient care delivery of the unit-based professional and support personnel. Ensures the provision of holistic, culturally competent, and person-centered, quality, safe, and cost-effective evidence-based nursing care for patients / families. Applies the nursing process within the context of the organization's shared / collaborative decision-making framework. Collaboratively manages the patient's transitions across the continuum of care to assist patients and populations in achieving or maintaining an optimal level of health and functioning. The Assistant Director of Nursing assumes administrative and leadership authority and responsibility on a 24 hours / 7 days per week basis for the assigned unit / department. Fosters associates' commitment to improving quality, safety, and cost-conscious patient care outcomes. Collaborates with the Director of Nursing in maintaining adherence to regulatory and accreditation standards, and MedStar Health's policies and procedures. Qualifications BSN from an accredited School of Nursing required. Master's degree in Nursing or a health related field from a nationally accredited program preferred. 3-4 years progressive nursing care (RN) experience required. 1-2 years Labor & Delivery nursing (RN) experience required. 1-2 years Mother / Baby or Postpartum nursing (RN) experience preferred. Active DC RN License and Basic Life Support for Healthcare providers required. C-EFM - Electronic Fetal Monitoring from the National Certification Corporation (NCC) required within 12 months from date of hire. Specialty certification from a nationally recognized nursing organization in either a clinical specialty or Nursing Administration preferred. This position has a hiring range of $100,588.00 - $190,340.00
