This role combines technical expertise with patient care and safety practices. Key Responsibilities : Patient Preparation : Interview and screen patients prior to procedures Explain test procedures and ensure informed consent Position patients correctly for scans Radiopharmaceutical Handling : Prepare and administer radioactive drugs Monitor patients for adverse reactions Adhere to safety protocols for storage and disposal Imaging and Equipment Operation : Operate gamma cameras, PET / CT scanners, and related equipment Capture diagnostic images as ordered by a physician Calibrate and maintain imaging equipment Data Management : Process and analyze scan data Prepare detailed diagnostic reports for physician interpretation Maintain accurate patient and procedure records Safety and Compliance : Follow radiation safety procedures and monitor exposure levels Comply with state, federal, and institutional regulations Participate in quality assurance and control programs Collaboration : Work with physicians, radiologists, and other healthcare providers Assist in scheduling and coordinating imaging procedures Train and supervise student technologists or new staff Qualifications : Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Nuclear Medicine Technology or related field Certification by : ARRT (Nuclear Medicine - NM) or NMTCB (Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board) Strong understanding of anatomy, physiology, and radiopharmaceuticals Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Licensure and Certification Requirements by State : Licensing requirements for NMTs vary by state.
