Are you an experienced inspector with a strong understanding of commercial construction, building codes, and safety standards? The City of Forney is looking for a Commercial Building Inspector to join our team and help ensure the integrity, safety, and compliance of commercial structures in our community. In this role, the position enforces life safety regulations, model building codes, and local ordinances in all construction phases. It also responds to citizen and departmental complaints and performs related work as required.

• Inspect commercial construction projects to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal building codes, including structural and architectural components.
• Conducts on-site inspections at all phases of construction to comply with approved plans and specifications and City standards and safety standards, and ensure proper materials are being used and installed correctly; performs regular inspections for all water, sewer, and stormwater construction projects to ensure compliance with state and local regulations.
• Conduct damage assessment inspections for commercial buildings following storms or other significant events.
• Maintains records and working files and prepares oral and written reports of work performed.
• Monitors progress of construction work, contracts, and schedules; issues and maintains right-of-way permits as needed; performs walk-through inspections of completed projects to ensure construction, safety, and quality control standards have been met.
• Determine appropriate means of enforcement of code, including issuance of citations and red tags.
• Performs routine materials and field tests to ensure material and workmanship quality.
• Conducts safety inspections and reviews established traffic control procedures for compliance within construction zones.
• Enforce codes, ordinances, and zoning regulations.
• Assists in analyses of selected contractor claims, when required; responds to and resolves public complaints; mediates and resolves issues for other departments, utilities, civil engineers, and permitting matters.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervision Exercised : No direct supervision exercised; may exercise occasional administrative and functional supervision for specified activities.

Minimum Qualifications :

Special Requirements : Must possess a Plumbing Inspector License from the Texas State Plumbing Board.
