The Design Engineering Principal role involves providing advice on major facility construction designs, leading the development and implementation of complex facility solutions, and ensuring the completeness and integrity of architectural strategies.
Essential Functions
- Advises on strategic decisions of major facility construction designs.
- Responsible for the architecture, design, development, implementation, and integrations of complex facility solutions.
- Takes a lead role design, develop, implement, support, and optimize more complex architecture strategy to meet business capabilities and needs.
- Takes a lead role to ensure completeness of more complex architecture by adequately addressing all the pertinent concerns of its stakeholders.
- Ensures integrity of more complex architecture by connecting various views of stakeholders, reconciling conflicting concerns, and showing the trade-offs made in so doing.
- Considers practicality and fitness for purpose in determining architecture to develop. Leverages business and technology knowledge to enable and / or alter business processes, practices, organizations and systems.
- Uses practical skills and experience to design and architect solutions, lead the implementation teams through the full life- cycle of the application development and deployment.
- Develops high-level product specifications with attention to system integration and feasibility.
- Develops and maintains strong internal customer relationships, including with FedEx operating companies planning, strategy, and engineering functions.
- Develops and maintains strong market knowledge and relationships, including external facility and or material handling design initiatives.
- Evaluates technical information and prov ides recommendations to the design engineering services manager.
- Creates a plan for documentation of facility and or material handling specification, testing proposed solutions for effectiveness, and presenting proposals to the design services manager.
- Takes a lead role to produce detailed component requirements, specifications and translates these into detailed solutions / designs for implementation using selected products.
- Takes a lead role to identify the technical, organizational, and physical environment in which more complex products or systems will operate.
- Takes a lead role to ensure the resolution of a variety of more complex design and business problems and serves as a technical or business lead for highly complex project initiatives.
- Maintains an in-depth knowledge of specific technical aspects in area of expertise and provides expert advice regarding their application.

Minimum Education
Bachelors degree in Architectural Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field required.
Minimum Experience
Ten (10)+ years experience required of facility design experience, architectural engineering, material handling engineering or related area.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Excellent research skills, and the ability to convert research into practical application.
Strong ability to effectively communicate information, both verbally and in writing, to support organizational objectives and interact with all levels of personnel.
Software skills, including use of, AutoCad, Revit, Microsoft Office software and Web Based Applications.
Presentation skills necessary to facilitate training and / or deliver informational sessions to groups and / or individuals.
Ability to anticipate and identify problems and use sound judgment and fact-based analysis to develop effective and efficient solutions.
Advanced design of steel structures, foundations, masonry and concrete.
Job Conditions
Some travel Required.
Preferred Qualifications : Experience preferred in material handling design, facilities design roles, project management experience, design engineering management, and knowledge of N2.0 integration designs.
Pay Transparency :
Pay : $8,896.99 / mo - $15,124.88 / mo
Additional Details : This position must be domiciled in Pittsburgh, PA.
