Certifications : Required certifications in the respective fields
Must-Have : Bachelor’s degree in a related science or completion of a military medical laboratory training program
Description :
Medical Laboratory Scientists utilize cutting-edge technology to perform and evaluate complex chemical, biological, and microscopic analyses.
Collaborate with caregivers to provide critical information needed for patient care.

Medical Laboratory Scientists perform testing in the clinical laboratory for the treatment and diagnosis of disease using standard techniques and equipment.
This includes storing and labeling specimens, using manual and automatic equipment to prepare specimens and perform analytical tests.
Testing is performed accurately, safely, and within established time periods for routine, urgent, and stat tests.
Calibration and routine maintenance of laboratory equipment and instrumentation are conducted according to laboratory protocols.
Maintain laboratory supply inventory and perform Quality Control and Quality Assurance procedures to ensure compliance with regulations.
Communicate information with internal and external customers in an accurate, timely, effective, and professional manner.
Recognize problems that require troubleshooting and seek additional assistance as appropriate.
Participate successfully in all accreditation and proficiency testing and annual performance competencies.
Share information obtained from external sources with co-workers and educate students and new staff.
Assist with the writing, evaluation, revisions, and implementation of policies and procedures.
Complete Continuing Education as required to maintain certification and follow laboratory policies and procedures.
Perform testing in various sections of the clinical laboratory, including Blood Bank, Hematology, Chemistry, and Microbiology.
Manual and automated equipment will be used for analytical tests, including but not limited to manual WBC and body fluid differentials, and molecular assays.
Notify staff members of any calibration or equipment failures which cannot be immediately resolved.
Report any values outside of acceptable ranges that cannot be resolved to the appropriate staff member.
Recognize test result or instrument function problems that require additional troubleshooting as appropriate.
