Dental Assistant

The Wilson County Health Department is accepting applications for a Dental Assistant. This is a full time benefits eligible position with Wilson County Government. This position is part of the team for the Wilson Area School Based Health (WASH) Dental Clinic. The WASH Dental Clinic serves enrolled students at all Wilson County public schools on a rotating schedule. Services offered include cleanings, X-rays, fluoride treatments, sealants, fillings, as well as limited emergency services. Compensation : The starting salary for a fully qualified Dental Assistant starts at $40,692 + a COMPETITIVE BENEFITS PACKAGE. Hours : 8 : 00 am- 4 : 30 pm (40 hrs per week), Monday- Friday. Extended hours may be requested or required for special events and / or programmatic needs.

Description of Work

This position will assist the dentist in the direct provision of primary care dental services to patients at the WASH Dental Clinic. Primary Responsibilities include :

• Chairside assisting in fixed or community sites
• Patient education, oral hygiene instructions and demonstrations
• Accurate and efficient patient charting with Dentrix software
• Disinfects and sterilizes instruments, surfaces, and equipment in compliance with CDC, OSHA and agency guidelines.
• Coronal Polishing Certificate xray

This position will involve physical activity to load and unload dental equipment in to facilities in the community.

Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :

Minimum Education and Experience

Completion of a dental assistant program from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of on-the-job training as a dental assistant and required x-ray training when needed; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. If no applications are received for fully qualified candidates consideration may be given to a hiring as a Trainee appointment. Minimum Education and Experience for a Trainee Appointment - High school or General Educational Development diploma.
