General medical-surgical experience

Ability to care for general pediatric patients as needed

Description :

The unit consists of 19 beds.

Staffing ratios are a maximum of 1 RN to 4-5 patients on day shifts and 1 RN to 5 patients on night shifts.

The unit commonly sees patients with CHF, diabetic complications and wounds, pneumonia (bacterial and viral), COPD exacerbations, hip fractures, and COVID-19.

Other patients include those who are post-operative from procedures such as TURPs, hip and knee replacements, cholecystectomy, and appendectomy.

RNs infrequently need to titrate drips.

Common titratable or set rate drips include Heparin and Bumex.

Both charge nurses and house supervisors are present on both day and night shifts.

Certified nursing assistants are available, with 1-3 on day shifts and 1 on night shifts.

Respiratory equipment such as CPAP, BiPAP, and high flow is utilized on the unit.

Telemetry monitoring is the responsibility of CCU staff, but a telemetry board is visible to medical-surgical staff.

Staff members are scheduled for weekend shifts every other week.

Holiday requirements are negotiable.

In the event of low census, staff must report within 30 minutes of being called.

Floating requirements include assisting as "helping hands" if not fully cross-trained to other departments.

Scrub color is navy blue.

Unit-specific orientation may last 3-6 shifts or longer if needed.

This unit has great staffing ratios, with RNs typically having fewer patients than the maximum.

Cancellation policies allow for up to 4 shifts to be canceled during the assignment.

The charting system used is MEDITECH - 5.66.

A BSN is not required for this position.
