Job Description

Responsible for the operation, programming and maintenance of the golf course irrigation system.

Responsible for operating irrigation heads in dry areas needing additional water.

  • Maintain and repair the irrigation system, which includes the distribution lines, valve, heads, controllers, hydraulic control system, fertigation system, all pump stations; raise heads and trim around them as needed.
  • Inspect the various components of the irrigation system daily to insure that they are operating properly; drag dew as needed.
  • Responsible for drainage projects and other related work as directed by the Golf Course Superintendent or Assistant Superintendents.
  • Report any irregularities in course turf quality to the superintendent or assistant superintendent.
  • Executes the irrigation program as directed by the Golf Course Superintendent / Director.
  • Waters greens, tees and fairways.
  • Repairs the irrigation system, pipes and irrigation heads as needed.
  • Completes requests for irrigation and course parts and supplies.
  • Maintains equipment and in compliance with county, state and federal regulations.
  • Perform safe mechanical operation and calibration of equipment.
  • Must be able to safely operate a golf cart.
  • Inspect all areas of property to determine irrigation needs.
  • Follow policies / procedures.
  • Perform other duties and / or tasks as directed by Management .

Education and experience

  • High school diploma and / or equivalent preferred.
  • Working knowledge of basic electricity and hydraulics related to an irrigation system, including automatic valves and controllers and of various types of pumps and pumping systems required.
  • Must be able to handle and use manual tools such as weedeaters, flymos, rakes, shovels, spreaders and similar tools.
  • Must be able to walk extensively, as well as, sit or stand for extended periods of time while performing job functions.
  • Must be able to stoop at the knees, bend at the waist, and have a complete dexterity of arms and legs to perform tasks in cramped or awkward positions.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50lbs.
  • Must be able and willing to take directions.
  • Must possess excellent organizational skills and coordinate and complete tasks with limited supervision.
  • Must be a self-starter and eager to learn.
  • Must be able to recognize and solve problems.
  • Must possess time management skills.
  • Must maintain high performance standards.
  • Knowledge of irrigation components, processes, and equipment.
  • Ability to deal effectively and cooperatively with employees, management and members.
  • Must be a detail-oriented individual and possess time management skills.
  • Ability to follow oral and written directions.
  • Ability to operate trucks and light motorized equipment.
