Director, People Solutions & HR Compliance
The Opportunity As Family Dollar evolves into a standalone organization, we are seeking a Director, People Solutions & HR Compliance to lead the strategic design, governance, and delivery of associate relations, HR compliance, and policy administration across our enterpriseincluding stores, distribution centers, and corporate functions.
This individual will play a critical role in driving consistency, accountability, and risk mitigation across employment practices, while ensuring alignment with legal standards and our company values. The Director will oversee a team of People Solutions Professionals, partner closely with HRBPs, Legal, Store Operations, and Internal Audit, and serve as a subject matter expert on associate relations, labor law, and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the People Solutions function, overseeing associate relations strategy, complex investigations, and enterprise-wide HR compliance efforts
- Provide counsel to HR Business Partners and field leadership on employee relations, performance management, terminations, and policy interpretation
- Oversee the development and maintenance of associate handbooks, company policies, and SOPs to ensure consistency, compliance, and accessibility across the organization
- Manage large-scale, high-impact investigations involving alleged misconduct, harassment, or policy violations; ensure consistent documentation, confidentiality, and legal alignment
- Establish and maintain compliance programs related to employment law (FMLA, ADA, FLSA, EEO, I-9, etc.), including audit processes, reporting, and risk mitigation strategies
- Partner with Legal and Risk on government inquiries, audits, and litigation support related to associate relations or employment practices
- Use data and root cause analysis to identify trends and drive proactive changes that reduce risk and improve associate engagement
- Deliver and enhance training for HR teams and field leadership on associate relations, compliance, investigations, and performance coaching
- Lead strategic projects focused on improving the associate experience, compliance posture, and HR process efficiency
- Mentor and develop a team of People Solutions Managers and Specialists, driving performance, consistency, and continuous improvement
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field required; Master's degree or JD preferred10+ years of progressive HR experience, including 5+ years managing employee relations or HR compliance in a large, multi-unit organization (retail or distribution preferred)Demonstrated expertise in employment law, HR investigations, policy development, and regulatory complianceStrong leadership and influencing skills with the ability to collaborate across HR, Legal, and OperationsExceptional judgment, discretion, and ability to manage sensitive and complex employee issuesStrong written, verbal, and presentation skillsAbility to manage multiple priorities and deliver in a fast-paced, high-volume environmentPHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP strongly preferredProficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); experience with HRIS (e.g., Workday, Lawson) and case management systems a plus
