Position – Network Engineer

W2 RATE - $64 / HR

Onsite, 9+ months renewable contract, Mechanicsville, VA.

Job Overview

The agency is seeking an experienced Senior Network Engineer (Sr NE) to implement and provide support to the agency's IT Network infrastructure. Responsibilities include day-to-day support, documentation, research, analysis, and implementation of network related infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Enterprise routers, switches, VPN concentrators, firewalls, wireless APs, load balancers – set up, configure, upgrade, manage, troubleshoot.
  • Troubleshoot network infrastructure.
  • Identify and diagnose system problems using line monitors, diagnostic software, test equipment.
  • Work closely with IT infrastructure suppliers and stakeholders to gather requirements, specifications, and configurations.
  • Assist in troubleshooting and resolving network issues impacting application performance and uptime.
  • Oversee installation, documentation, and upgrades of agency facility data network infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with cloud and DevSecOps teams to optimize hybrid connectivity and SDWAN configurations.
  • Provide documentation, network architecture topology diagrams, IP schemes, firewall rules, and access controls.
  • Work independently on assigned projects.
  • Hold an industry standard networking certification.

Required / Desired Experience

  • 8+ years of hands-on experience with enterprise routers, switches, VPN concentrators, firewalls, wireless APs.
  • 8+ years of experience designing, installing, and troubleshooting LAN / WAN enterprise networks.
  • 8+ years of industry standard networking certification (e.g., Cisco CCNA, Juniper JNCIA-Junos).
  • 8+ years monitoring IT environments for compliance with information security, architecture policies, and standards.
  • 8+ years creating repeatable, reliable, scalable network architectures with fault tolerance.
  • 8+ years performance tuning, monitoring systems, metrics collection, disaster recovery.
  • 8+ years creating network diagrams using industry standard tools such as Visio.
  • 8+ years experience with networking features and protocols (ARP, CDP, EIGRP, OSPF, BGP, VTP, Etherchannel, HSRP, QoS, multicast, IPsec).
  • 3+ years working with SDWAN (desired).
  • 3+ years working with cloud networking (desired).
