IMEG is growing, and we'd love to have you join our team! We are currently seeking a Controls Project Designer in our Omaha, NE office. As a Controls Project Designer you will be responsible for leading design efforts for low to moderately complex projects, working closely with senior staff to ensure successful project delivery. This role also involves managing engineering design, guiding Controls Designers, and producing complete control system documentation.
Principal Responsibilities :
Lead design and engineering tasks for moderately complex control system projects, including networks, motor starters, PLC / SCADA systems, and enclosures.
Deliver complete engineering documentation, including IO lists, device schedules, and connection diagrams.
Collaborate with Controls Designers to develop hardware specifications, drawings, and submittal documents.
Support programming and commissioning efforts in coordination with Senior Controls Designers.
Provide hardware and software specifications for control system designs.
Perform electrical system analysis and create detailed designs and calculations per code and IMEG standards.
Ensure quality assurance of all control system construction documents.
Communicate with clients to gather requirements, provide updates, and maintain strong relationships.
Lead project planning, budgeting, and scheduling while tracking progress and design decisions.
Identify and resolve engineering challenges through collaboration and innovative solutions.
Conduct design reviews and implement IMEG quality control processes.
Stay current with industry trends and contribute to safety, innovation, and cross-functional collaboration.
Required Skills / Abilities :
Proficiency in design techniques, tools, and concepts involved in the production of technical plans and specifications
Strong knowledge of and skills in using design techniques, tools, and concepts involved in the production of technical plans and specifications
Strong technical skills in reading and understanding and designing controls symbols and documents such as P&ID (Process & Instrumentation Diagram) drawings and symbols
Ability to manage and oversee the completion of designing and engineering all aspects of a moderately sized control system
Knowledge of commissioning process including items such as PLC programming, HMI development, IO loop tests, drive setup, IP addressing, exc.
Strong technical and analytical skills with hands-on experience in network systems (Ethernet / IP, fiber, POE, RS232 / 485, switches), PLC systems (processors, I / O, HMI / SCADA, analog / digital signals), electrical circuits (AC / DC, voltage drop, wiring, protection devices), and motor starters (FVNR, FVR, soft starts, VFDs, overload and grounding detection)
Proficient with MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, and Outlook
Ability to travel up to 20% with occasional overnight stays that may range up to a two week period
Education and Experience :
Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent required
Engineering In Training (EIT) Certification preferred
5 years of experience minimum required, 6 preferred, in the control systems automation and instrumentation consulting or construction industry
OR
Associates degree, or certificate, in Automation and Instrumentation, or Engineering preferred
9 years of experience minimum required, 10 preferred, in the control systems automation and instrumentation consulting or construction industry
