Responsibilities
- Dig deeply into economic mobility issues affecting St. Louis.
- Convey findings to the public; work with a small team; help grow the region’s economy through fact-based reporting.
- Balance immediate and longer-term deadlines for a mix of long-form and timely coverage.
- Capture quality photography of interview subjects; familiarity with short-form video is a plus.
- Collaborate with the Economic Mobility Lab within the publication.
Qualifications
Proven track record of news coverage; ability to talk to the real people behind the data and navigate complicated bureaucracies; ability to get to the bottom of the story even when sources are in disagreement.Experience reporting with clarity on complex data and issues; ability to explain findings to a broad audience.Comfort with deadlines and a mix of long-form and timely pieces; proficiency with short-form video (TikTok, Instagram Reels) is a plus; ability to take good photos of interview subjects.Strong communication skills and editorial judgment.Please email your resume, five of your best news clips, and a cover letter explaining why you’d crush it at this job to executive editor Sarah Fenske at sfenske@stlmag.com.
