Custodial Services Job Description

Primary Purpose : To maintain a clean, orderly, and safe environment ensuring the proper operation of all facilities.

Qualifications :

Education / Certification : High school diploma or equivalent

Special Knowledge / Skills : Be able to communicate in writing and verbally. Must be able to work well with others. Basic computer skills.

Experience : Experience in maintenance and / or custodial is helpful. Experience as a delivery driver / courier is helpful.

Major Responsibilities and Duties :

Assists with opening the building in order for students and staff to begin the school day. Helps maintain cleanliness of the building including washing windows, picking up trash, cleaning bathrooms and drinking fountains, mopping floors when necessary. Repairs building and equipment as assigned to assure equipment is operational for students and staff. Sets up and replaces equipment as needed for daily activities such as lunch, as well as special activities such as evening programs. Provides crossing guard duties in order to ensure students, parents, and staff are able to cross the street safely. Helps receive deliveries and dispenses of equipment / supplies / furniture in their appropriate places. Assists with closing the building in order to ensure the building is secure and utility costs are minimized. Shovels, plows, and salts sidewalks and steps during inclement weather to ensure a safe environment. Assist with special projects such as putting together new furniture, painting walls, completing repairs, and doing major repairs, during summer months and at times when school is not in session. Moves furniture, equipment, and supplies for the purpose of re-locating classrooms. Supervises students as needed, in order to ensure safety. Maintains confidentiality as appropriate in order to comply with district, state and federal laws. Performs other duties as assigned in order to ensure a clean, orderly, and safe environment.

Tools / Equipment Used : Standard office and maintenance equipment and chemicals including personal computer and phone along with two-way radios.

Posture : Occasional sitting, Frequent standing and occasional ladder use.

Motion : Significant walking; Frequent reaching, carrying, stooping, and kneeling, pushing / pulling

Lifting : Heavy lifting is infrequent

Environment : Inside and outside. May experience extreme weather conditions.

Mental Demands : Maintain focus, decision making, remain composed under pressure

Attendance : Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance / punctuality as required by the Board of Education policies and regulations.

Clearances : Background check and current TB test
