This position in Benefits is seeking Benefits Coordinator 3. Benefits coordinator 3 will support employees through the retirement process to ensure they are prepared, educated, and compliant with appropriate policies and guidelines. Executes Shared Services retirement-related activities, including but not limited to, retirement benefits operational processes and reporting, managing and approving retirement elections / changes, sending out time-sensitive retirement correspondence and updates, responding to payroll adjustment inquiries as needed, and processing adjustments for plan changes. The benefits coordinator adds value to the university by responding to inquiries from employees, departments, and outside vendors to deliver seamless service. Level and scope of responsibility may vary depending on the level of experience.
The benefits coordinator will review retirement distribution requests to ensure IRS compliance, identifying and resolving issues in collaboration with the Retirement Center of Excellence and providers, and certifying eligible distributions. Responsibilities include auditing retirement plan contributions, responding to inquiries from retirement providers regarding eligibility and distributions, and leveraging knowledge of institutional and state retirement systems to research service time and contributions. Additionally, the individual will manage escalated inquiries, collaborate with team members across departments, and train colleagues in distribution processes.
This position will report into Megan Daniel and will be on a hybrid schedule. This position offers a flexible hybrid schedule including remote work as agreed upon with Associate Manager, Retirement Benefits, Megan Daniel. As of now, this position will be in office at Gateway C on Wednesdays and the rest of the week will be completed remotely; however, it may be adjusted as business needs require.

Duties and Responsibilities
25%- Reviews request for retirement distribution and determines if IRS requirements are met for distributable event; identifies issues, collaborates with Retirement CoE and Providers, and communicates resolution; provides appropriate certification for eligible distributions
25%- Manages response to OPERS Missing ARP report, reporting on the causes of missing contributions. Reviews retirement benefit eligibility for deceased university retirees. Manages demographic errors within Workday HRIS and with ARP / SRA providers
20%- Researches and manages escalated inquiries directed to Retirement team. Identifies new challenges or trends and offer solutions to the complex issues and communicates resolutions surrounding contributions, eligibility, employment history, distributions and other retirement concerns
15%- Routinely collaborates with other team members, Health & Welfare, Payroll, units and Retirement Providers
5%- Responds to inquiries, reroutes and / or resolves incoming Benefits Administration cases directed to the Retirement Administration and Health and Welfare teams; including researching issues surrounding contributions, eligibility and other retirement concerns from OPERS, STRS and ARP or SRA providers. Identifies new challenges or trends and offer solutions to complex issues and communicates resolutions
3%- Leverage institutional and state retirement systems knowledge to research unreported service time and prior Ohio State retirement contributions spanning decades and prior payroll systems. Including managing and tracking university cost for purchasing service time and verifying deceased retiree benefits
3%- Learns responsibilities of other team members in order to perform duties during critical periods or when work is at a high volume; requiring a knowledge and understanding of applicable plans, processes and report generation and analysis. Trains fellow team members in distribution processes to allow for multiple backups for this role. Helps to facilitate new employee retirement trainings with other Benefits Consultants
2%- STRS annual service credit verification report
2%- Audits events and reports to ensure retirement plan contributions are correctly deducted; draws from knowledge of institutional policies / program and retirement requirements to ensure job changes and benefit events are consistently aligned with retirement deductions.
