We are currently seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Construction Financial Analyst to join our team and contribute to the success of a federally funded construction project .

Position Overview :

The Construction Financial Analyst will serve as a vital member of our finance team, supporting the financial oversight, reporting, and compliance aspects of large-scale construction projects. This position requires a deep understanding of construction accounting , financial reporting, and cost tracking especially as it pertains to projects funded by federal and state agencies .

The selected candidate will report to the Finance Manager and collaborate closely with project managers, contracts administrators, and client representatives to ensure that all financial processes align with organizational goals and grant funding requirements.

This is a hybrid position , and candidates must be based in or near the New York metropolitan area .

Key Responsibilities :

  • Prepare and distribute monthly and quarterly financial reporting packages, ensuring accuracy, depth of analysis, and strategic relevance.
  • Conduct financial reviews to ensure alignment with federal reimbursement requirements and project funding guidelines.
  • Assist in the preparation of ad hoc financial reports for internal stakeholders, client agencies, and executive leadership.
  • Maintain and organize fiscal documentation to ensure proper audit trail and readiness for annual audits .
  • Prepare and submit client invoices in accordance with contract terms and funding requirements.
  • Reconcile operational expense accounts and ensure payments are properly coded to appropriate revenue streams.
  • Support the project management and contract administration teams to ensure timely and accurate delivery of financial-related deliverables.
  • Ensure compliance with generally accepted accounting principles ( GAAP ) and relevant federal regulations.
  • Collaborate with other finance team members to develop and maintain best practices in budgeting, forecasting, and project cost management.
  • Perform additional accounting and administrative tasks as assigned.

Required Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field from an accredited college or university. ( Master’s Degree or CPA a plus ).
  • 3 to 5 years of professional accounting experience, preferably within the construction or engineering industries.
  • In-depth understanding of construction accounting , including reviewing and reconciling payment breakdowns and managing cost reports.
  • Proficiency in financial statement preparation, journal entries, and general ledger reconciliation.
  • Advanced skill level in Microsoft Excel , including experience with pivot tables, formulas, and VLOOKUP.
  • Familiarity with accounting systems such as SAGE , EAR , or similar ERP platforms .
  • Proven knowledge of bookkeeping, financial reporting, accounting principles, and federal compliance standards.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities with exceptional attention to detail.
  • High level of professionalism with the ability to handle confidential information discreetly.
  • Fluent in English (both written and verbal).
  • Authorized to work in the United States .
  • Preferred Qualifications :

  • Experience working on federally funded construction projects or with public agencies.
  • Prior experience supporting infrastructure projects in the rail or transit sectors.
  • Working knowledge of grant compliance and federal reporting regulations .
