We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Mortgage Underwriter to join our dynamic team. As a key member of our organization, you'll have the opportunity to leverage your analytical skills, attention to detail, and industry knowledge to assess creditworthiness and ensure compliance with various regulatory standards. This role is crucial to our company's success, as it involves making critical decisions that directly impact our overall risk and profitability. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work with a diverse portfolio of mortgage applications, with a focus on FNMA and NON-QM loans.
Responsibilities
As a Permanent Mortgage Underwriter, your primary responsibilities will include :
1. Reviewing and analyzing loan applications, credit reports, appraisals, income, and asset documentation.
2. Interpreting and applying FNMA and NON-QM guidelines to loan requests.
3. Making informed and decisive loan approval or denial decisions.
4. Ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations, including but not limited to federal, state, and local laws, as well as company policies and procedures.
5. Communicating effectively with loan officers, processors, and closers to resolve application issues and answer inquiries.
6. Providing feedback and recommendations for process and workflow improvements.
7. Identifying and mitigating potential risks and frauds by thoroughly examining loan documentation.
8. Maintaining a thorough understanding of all loan products and updates to FNMA and NON-QM guidelines.
Qualifications
To be considered for this role, candidates must possess the following qualifications :
1. A minimum of 5 years of experience in Mortgage Underwriting.
2. Direct Endorsement (DE) and Staff Appraisal Reviewer (SAR) certifications.
3. In-depth knowledge of FNMA, NON-QM, and other applicable underwriting guidelines.
4. Familiarity with compliance regulations in the mortgage industry.
5. Strong analytical skills, with a keen eye for detail and accuracy.
6. Excellent decision-making abilities, with a proven track record of making sound judgment calls.
7. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with all levels of the organization.
8. Proficiency in using loan origination systems and other mortgage industry software.
9. Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines without compromising on quality.
