Job Description American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med / Surg position requiring trauma or surgical care experience and active AL or compact RN license.

Responsibilities Work across multiple Med / Surg units in an acute care hospital environment within specialty floors including trauma / surgical, neuroscience, oncology, orthopedics, urology, and a clinical decision unit

Patient populations include general surgery, vascular, neurological, orthopedic, spine, med / surg oncology, and complex medical cases

Typical patient ratios range from 1 : 5 to 1 : 6

Shifts are 7a-7p or 7p-7a on a four-week schedule cycle

Weekend rotation required : every other weekend or four weekend days per month

Floating may be required between like units, including MS, ICU, ER holds, or related settings

RNs are required to interpret telemetry strips every four hours with hallway monitors and tele tech support

EMR is Cerner (preferred); Plum 360 IV pumps, Omnicell med dispensing, and Spacelabs monitors are used

Primary responsibilities include assessment, prioritization, medication administration, communication, and comprehensive documentation of patient care

Support staff includes CNAs, charge nurse, phlebotomy, IV / VAT team, hospitalists, and receptionists / HUC

All first-time travelers with the required experience will be considered

Orientation includes 24 hours classroom and 24 hours unit training for new or returning travelers (absent over 1 year); rehire orientation varies based on departure date

Holiday coverage is required for one major and one minor holiday per policy

Scrub color is flexible; any color allowed

Parking is available on the 2nd to 4th levels of the parking deck

Approved RTO may be granted up to 7 days, except during listed blackout dates

Requirements Active AL or compact RN license required at time of consideration

BLS and NIHSS certifications required

Minimum 18 months Med / Surg experience required, with at least 1 year of trauma or surgical care experience

Experience with Cerner or Epic EMR required

Ability to perform wound care, manage chest tubes and drains, NGT, PEG, IV skills, medication administration and documentation, and escalation of care

For oncology unit, chemo administration experience highly preferred

Perm staff must have not worked at the facility in the past 6 months to be eligible as a traveler

Applicants must reside outside a 60-mile radius from the facility
