Overview
The purpose of this position is to protect life and property and enforce federal, state, and local laws. Job duties consist of related law enforcement duties. Successful performance contributes to the detection and deterrence of crime and to the protection of life and property. FLSA status is Non-Exempt.
This is an entry-level position with educational and growth requirements for candidates that do currently possess an APOSTC certification. Incumbents are originally assigned to Patrol. Incumbents may be assigned to the Warrant or Community / School Relations Unit after the required time in service. The following duties are normal for this classification. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or logical assignments for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned. Specific duties listed may not be required for all positions in this classification, but are determined by the normal requirements for this particular position.

This is an entry-level position. Candidates must meet all minimum requirements set forth by departmental qualifications and the Alabama Peace Officers Standards and Training Commission to be considered for this position.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED (from an accredited institution) required AND
ACT WorkKeys Assessment (BAT) required (see below) OR an Associates or higher degree from an accredited SACS college / university (attach either to application).
Reading for Information (Workplace Documents) Pass Score 4.
Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age.
Must have and maintain a valid Alabama driver's license.
Must be certified as required by the Alabama Peace Officers' Standards and Training Commission.

Job duties are typically performed sitting, standing, walking, running, bending, crouching or stooping. Employees frequently lift light or heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, distinguishes between shades of color, and utilizes the sense of smell.
Job duties are typically performed in an office, outdoors, at emergency or crime scenes or schools, occasionally in extreme or inclement weather. Employees may be exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, contagious or infectious diseases, irritating chemicals, extreme temperatures, hazardous situations, and inclement weather. Job duties require the use of specialized law enforcement equipment and the ability to deal with and relate to people beyond giving and receiving instructions. The ability to talk, express, or exchange ideas by spoken words and / or hear and perceive sounds by ear is required. Candidates must be able to adapt to and perform under moderate stress. Regular, punctual attendance is required in accordance with ADA, FMLA and other standards.
