Job Summary

A wide range of laundry tasks are performed, including separating, loading and unloading washers and dryers, sorting, folding, weighing and distribution of clean linen. Operation of laundry equipment will be expected.

Essential Functions

Perform the day to day laundry functions in accordance with the daily work assignments.

Consistently meet the pounds per operator hour (PPOH) set forth by management guidelines.

Safely operate and secure various pieces of equipment necessary to effectively perform job functions, such as the dryers, washers, small piece folder, spreader / feeder and other job specific equipment.

Ensure that established infection control practices are maintained when performing laundry procedures.

Maintains a clean and tidy work area including equipment; following cleaning schedules and routines for the department and ensuring the proper care and economical use of resources.

Ensure that assigned work areas are maintained in a clean, safe, comfortable and attractive manner.

Follow established safety precautions when performing tasks and when using equipment and supplies.

Responsible for daily cleaning of equipment : lint filter on dryer and weekly thorough cleaning of entire laundry.

Restock linen and any supplies needed and reports restock needs back to the Manager.

Record daily weights and counts for soiled and cleaned linens using established laundry procedures.

Consistently removes worn or stained linens as directed.

Deliver clean linens to all areas as scheduled daily.

Interprets par levels in relation to loading linen onto institutional racks for delivery.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervisory / Management Responsibilities

This is a non-management job that will report to a supervisor, manager, director or executive.

Minimum Requirements

Education - High school diploma, GED or equivalent preferred

Experience - Prior laundry experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Must be willing to learn, identify, understand and demonstrate a working knowledge of linen processing techniques.

Display adequate communication and customer service skills. With time and experience, expected to be proficient in their skills.

Need to have the ability to develop a thorough knowledge of laundry procedures and learned techniques.

Ability to work under minimal direction and supervision.

Requires the ability to effectively deal with the public, patients, staff, department leaders, and peers. Must be able to read, write and follow oral and written instruction.
