This is a mid-level law enforcement position involving duties pursuant to Florida Statutes 24.108. The incumbent assigned to this position conducts criminal, internal, intelligence and other types of investigations, as well as providing some training to lower level agents, in support of the Florida Lottery.
Essential duties include : knowledge of the Lottery's Responsible Gaming program, including the No Underage Play and Play Within Your Means messaging; general investigations; undercover investigations; background investigations; intelligence assistance; draw management duties; attendance; crime prevention duties; mutual aid assignment; facility security support; special events; escort service; data administration; training; evidence control; internal investigations; field training officer duties; case agent duties; and other related duties as appropriate or assigned by management.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities required include : proficiency with a weapon; knowledge of investigative techniques; knowledge of law enforcement principles and techniques; knowledge of the criminal justice system; knowledge of basic accounting or auditing methods, principles and procedures; basic knowledge of computers and computer applications; knowledge of appropriate grammar, punctuation and spelling; knowledge of the principles and techniques of effective communication; ability to initiate, follow through and complete various types of investigations; ability to conduct fact-finding interviews, takes statements, gather and preserve evidence; ability to use deductive reasoning; ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments; ability to analyze information and determine its validity; ability to conduct surveillance activities; ability to prepare and complete investigative reports, affidavits and search warrants with concise and thorough detail of events and situations; ability to read and understand complicated rules, regulations and directives; ability to maintain strict confidentiality as well as confidential records and correspondence; ability to make independent decisions; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships; ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing; ability to effectively communicate with the public in a professional manner; ability to deal with individuals and critical situations in an effective manner; ability to analyze, evaluate and interpret financial data; ability to operate and maintain motorized equipment; ability to perform physical labor and withstand physical exertion; ability to train and assist employees in job duties; ability to work undercover; ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays as required; and ability to travel during the day, overnight, and unexpectedly as required.
Other job-related requirements include : at least five (5) years of sworn law enforcement experience with at least two (2) documented years of sworn law enforcement experience as a criminal investigator / detective; nonsworn investigative experience in accounting, auditing, finance, or technical communications can also be substituted for the experience described above on a year for year basis; is at least 19 years of age; is a United States citizen; has a high school diploma or its equivalent; has not, at any time, been convicted (adjudicated guilty) of any felony; has not been convicted (adjudicated guilty) of a misdemeanor involving perjury or a false statement; was not dishonorably discharged from any of the U.S. Armed Forces; has passed a physical examination by a licensed physician; has a good moral character as determined by a background investigation; has completed a basic recruit course of training; has achieved an acceptable score on the officer certification examination; complies with the continuing training or education requirements; successful passing of a criminal background check (state, local, and national) is required; may be required to have a National Security clearance; maintains strict confidentiality of information learned while working with the Florida Lottery; and the selected candidate must reside within 50 geodesic miles (straight line) from the West Palm Beach District Office, 4360 Forest Hill Blvd., West Palm Beach, FL 33406.
