Job Title : FACILITY AND GROUNDS TECHNICIAN I
Department : Public Works Division : Parks
Reports To : Parks Supervisor
Pay Range : 4 Status : Full time
FLSA Status : Non-Exempt
Position Summary : Facilities and Grounds Technician I is responsible for maintaining facilities, buildings and other county property. Performs general and specialized maintenance and construction work. This employee exercises considerable discretion in carrying out work details.

Education : High school diploma or equivalent required.
License(s) / Certification(s) : Valid driver’s license required.
Experience : At least one season of experience in grounds maintenance preferred not required. Considerable knowledge of materials, equipment, methods and practices. Some knowledge and skill in using standard methods, practices, tools and equipment of the building trades. Experience interacting with the public required.
Abilities : Ability to make minor repairs and adjustments, and to maintain medium duty construction and maintenance equipment. Ability to safely operate ground maintenance equipment efficiently and safely. Ability to work with materials, equipment, and practices essential to the maintenance of turf, trees, ornamentals, buildings, facilities, and park equipment. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instruction. Must maintain effective working relations with employees and the public. Ability to maintain daily labor and equipment records. Willingness to work in unpleasant weather conditions.

Position Summary : This is skilled work performing park and grounds maintenance and construction activities. Work involves performing general and specialized maintenance tasks, operating various mechanical tools and equipment to perform general and specialized work in tree, turf, building maintenance and construction. This position assists with the maintenance of buildings, fairgrounds, and other county property. This employee exercises considerable discretion in carrying out work details.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS :
Education : High school diploma or equivalent required. Class A Commercial License and tanker endorsement preferred.
Certified turf and ornamental pesticide applicator’s license (Class 3A & 3B) within 6 months of hire. Kansas arborist’s certification and a certified playground safety inspector classification preferred.
Experience : 1 year experience in building maintenance required, 3 years’ experience in tree and turf maintenance required, basic computer skills required (i.e., Microsoft office). Experience working with fertilizers and their safe and effective application.

Employee is required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance, talk or hear. Must frequently lift 20-50lbs and constantly lift 10-25lbs. Vision requirements include close, distance, color, and peripheral. The work requires sufficient body flexibility and strength to complete a project. Exposure to machinery, heights, excessive noise, corrosive solvents, pesticides, flammable liquids and work in extreme temperature, humidity, wind and cold are expected.

Work involves everyday risks or discomforts typical of such places as offices, meeting or training rooms. Work in an office setting can require visual attention and dexterity in computer operation. Majority of the work is performed in the field where conditions will vary greatly. The employee is exposed to wet and / or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; extreme cold; extreme heat; vibration. The noise level can vary from normal to very loud. On occasion, protective clothing such as a hard hat, safety vest, ear protection, boots, gloves, safety glasses or face shield may be required.
