Job Title

Drives tractor trailers and / or other vehicles typically having a GVW of more than 32,000 pounds. Operates one or more electric, LPG, or diesel powered fork lift trucks to facilitate loading and unloading duties. Drives one or more types of passenger buses which carry 16 or more passengers.

  • An appropriate, valid driver's license is required for the position.
  • Position requires the ability to discern colors, contrast, and depth.
  • The employee may be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and / or holidays.
  • Shift work may be required.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance.
  • This position has a limited area of consideration to Command-wide (Global Strike Force).
  • This position is obligated to the former incumbent and has return rights to this position under 10 U.S.C. 1586. Upon the employee's return you are subject to being displaced from this obligated position.

Qualifications :

In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-5700 Transportation / Mobile Equipment Operation Group. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

Screen out element for this position is ability to the work of a MOTOR VEHICLE OPERATOR (FORK LIFT OPERATOR) without more than normal supervision.

Job elements :

  • Knowledge of and skill in operating one or more gasoline, diesel, or electric powered wheeled vehicles with a GVW of over 32,000 pounds such as truck tractors with semi or full trailers, heavy load in-line trucks, or interstate motor coaches.
  • Knowledge of cargo handling and hauling and techniques for safeguarding and protecting cargo.
  • Knowledge of traffic and safety regulations, practices, and procedures pertaining to motor vehicle and forklift operation.
  • Knowledge of and skill in operating one or more electric, LPG, or diesel-powered forklifts.
  • Ability to judge road / traffic conditions and read maps to determine the shortest and safest route. Ability to interpret instructions, specifications, etc. related to motor vehicle, forklift, and power take-off unit operation and preventive maintenance. Reliability and dependability to meet pickup and delivery deadlines and schedules.
  • Skill and knowledge in operating buses capable of carrying 16 or more passengers.
  • Physical effort is moderate to heavy. Work requires reaching, turning, or moving hands, arms, feet, and legs to operate hand and foot controls. Associated duties require stooping, bending, and climbing. Lifts and carries objects weighing up to 40 pounds and heavier objects with assistance.

    Drivers work mostly outside and operate vehicles in all kinds of traffic and weather on public roads (or equivalent) and are exposed to the danger of serious accidents. Drivers are exposed to dirt, fumes, and to the possibility of cuts, bruises, and broken bones as a result of accidents when loading and unloading the vehicle. They drive in heavy traffic and at highway speeds over complicated road and interchange systems.
