Civil Engineer

Brooksource Engineering Services is seeking a

• Bridge Inspection Engineer
• to support our public sector client in maintaining the safety and integrity of critical transportation infrastructure. This role involves conducting inspections of bridges, large culverts, and retaining walls in accordance with the
• National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS)
• and client-specific guidelines. The engineer will assess structural conditions, assign ratings, and report findings to ensure public safety and protect infrastructure investments.

• Bridge Inspection Department
• of our public sector client.
• A Day in the Life :

Conduct biennial inspections of bridges per NBIS requirements.

Inspect large culverts (4 to 20 spans) and retaining walls.

Review bridge inspection reports and determine specialized inspection needs.

Perform quality control reviews and emergency inspections (e.g., collisions, high water).

Conduct in-depth inspections using access equipment for non-redundant steel tension members.

Perform special and post-construction inspections.

Prepare and submit detailed inspection reports.

Report deficiencies and recommend rehabilitation or replacement.

Coordinate repair work for damaged structures.

Work a standard 7.5-hour day with flexibility for specialty or emergency inspections.

• What Youll Need for Success :

Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution.

Engineer in Training (EIT) certification.

Working toward or holding an Indiana PE license.

Strong understanding of bridge and culvert structural behavior and defect impact.

Proficiency in reading technical documents and interpreting engineering data.

Knowledge of bridge maintenance principles and inspection techniques.

Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Basic computer proficiency and adaptability to new software.

Valid Indiana drivers license.

Physical ability to perform field inspections, including climbing, lifting, and working in confined spaces.

NHI Bridge Inspection Refresher Training (every 5 years)

NHI Fracture Critical Inspection Techniques for Steel Bridges

Purdue S-BRITE Inspecting Steel Bridges for Fatigue

Fall Protection Training

Confined Space Training (as needed)

Asbestos Inspector Training (as needed)

• Preferred :

Experience with inspection access vehicles / platforms

Certified Asbestos Inspector or willingness to obtain

SPRAT Level 1 climber or higher, or willingness to obtain
