Job Summary

Performs radiological procedures at a technical level not requiring constant supervision. Performance of these duties and procedures requires independent judgement with ingenuity and initiative to apply prescribed ionizing radiation for radiological diagnosis. Performs radiological procedures for pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients.

Essential Functions

Perform Radiology Exams.

Properly identifies patient using the hospital's standard patient identifies - patient's name and birth date. Explains to patient the examination ordered by the physician and answers questions or refers patient to the radiologist or appropriate person.

Reviews and abstracts data from patient's chart as required.

Sets up imaging devices as required in accordance with prescribed procedures.

Assists patient in arranging required anatomical body positions required image of area being examined. Selects proper technical factors, based on patient and exam being performed, adjusts controls to produce a quality Radiographic image. Safely transfers patient from wheelchair or stretcher to radiographic table. Provides patient with necessary comfort items, i.e. pillows, blankets, etc.

Produces Radiographic images as directed by physician. Able to Communicate with other Departments and Nursing Units. Communicates with patient units about schedule, preps or other pertinent information. Notifies unit when sending for patients. Calls report to receiving floor or unit when indicated by policy and / or patient condition. Notifies transport personnel of any unusual or specific needs. Provides reports for emergency room patients or when requested by ordering physician.

Maintain work area and equipment. Communicates with incoming shift of conditions of equipment, procedures in progress, schedule to patients, and any other patient information. Reports malfunction or equipment, lack of supplies, and incidents promptly to supervisor.

Maintains area of assignment, cleans equipment after use, and restocks items used during shift.

Perform CPR and Maintain Professional License. Must be capable of performing CPR, administration of oxygen, suction, and related duties as directed by the physician.Must keep CPR certification up to date. Must keep Professional License up to date.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervisory / Management Responsibilities

This is a non-management job that will report to a supervisor, manager, director or executive.

CPR

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Must possess the necessary skills to perform radiological procedures for pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients.

Above average computer skills.

Preferred skills with AS400 and RIS / PACS System.

Excellent verbal and written communication and listening skills. Demonstrates self-direction in improving and acquiring the skills and abilities necessary to enhance job performance.

Expected to have excellent manners and must represent facility in such a way that patients feel well cared for and would return to facility in future. Expected to demonstrate proper telephone etiquette, and strong attention to detail.

Comfortable learning and working with new computer systems. Be able to meet or exceed patient satisfaction at all times.

Mustbe able to work independently. Must be able to interact with patients and staff in a courteous, professional manner.
