Job Purpose

The Senior IT Application System Architect will act as the principal technical leader, responsible for designing and governing the evolution of mission-critical rail transportation systems. The position requires deep architectural expertise and extensive experience in migrating legacy platforms such as IBM Mainframe and TPF to modern Java and Spring-based microservices environments. The architect will ensure all solutions are scalable, secure, and strategically aligned with business objectives through the application of recognized frameworks and agile methodologies.

Requirements

Key Responsibilities

  • System Modernization : Lead the end-to-end design and implementation of modernization efforts, replacing legacy Mainframe and TPF systems with event-driven microservices using Java and Spring technologies.
  • Architectural Governance : Establish, document, and enforce architectural principles and standards to ensure consistency, performance, and alignment across all technology domains.
  • Framework Application : Apply enterprise architecture methodologies and bodies of knowledge such as TOGAF , BizBok , and DMBok to maintain structure and coherence in system design.
  • Agile Delivery Leadership : Provide technical direction within a Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) environment, ensuring architectures support agility, integration, and continuous delivery.
  • Technical Design Authority : Act as the expert on event-driven architecture (EDA) , enterprise information management (EIM) , and architectural modeling to deliver secure, high-performing solutions.
  • Cross-Domain Collaboration : Design and integrate systems that address complex business challenges across multiple technical and operational domains.
  • Strategic Alignment : Partner with stakeholders to align architectural initiatives with long-term business and technology strategies.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Minimum 15 years of progressive IT experience across multiple domains.
  • At least 10 years in architecture-focused roles, with experience designing large-scale enterprise systems.
  • Proven experience in the Rail Transportation domain, including defining and implementing technology solutions.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience working within a Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of enterprise architecture frameworks such as TOGAF, BizBok, and DMBok.
  • Expertise in migrating legacy Mainframe and TPF systems to modern Java, Spring, and microservices architectures.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, capable of conveying complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
