Senior Accountant

The Senior Accountant is responsible for performing intermediate level accounting functions in the reporting of activities such as fixed assets, financial transaction posting, and financial reporting. General accounting includes preparing, recording, verifying, and reconciling intricate financial transactions and events in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), ensuring accuracy and timeliness. The role also involves analyzing and summarizing financial transactions to ensure integrity of data in the general ledger, reconciling complex general ledger accounts to the sub-ledger and financial reports, monitoring and evaluating organizational activities that directly impact financial functions, maintaining the financial reporting structures of the accounting system, compiling and interpreting financial data for internal and external users, reviewing and recommending modifications to the accounting system, performing validation and testing procedures for all financial system upgrades and enhancements, developing, recommending, and implementing departmental policies and procedures to maintain and strengthen internal controls, supporting internal and external audit processes by preparing documentation and providing necessary information and support, collaborating with internal departments and external stakeholders to ensure effective execution of tasks and initiatives, and performing other duties as assigned.

Asset management includes maintaining fixed asset records including accurately recording additions, adjustments, transfers, and retirements for all fixed assets, ensuring accurate classification and valuation of assets, accurately calculating and recording depreciation expense for all fixed assets in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), performing reconciliation of the Fixed Asset Sub-Ledger to the General Ledger to ensure accuracy and compliance with all company policies and procedures, preparing various fixed asset reports, including Roll Forward, Depreciation Schedules, Assets listings and others as requested for management review and audit purposes, and supporting internal departments by reviewing, analyzing, and providing guidance on proper accounting treatment to ensure compliance with all capital expenditure policies and procedures are followed.

This position receives limited supervision and requires a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting or related field from an institution accredited by a recognized accrediting agency, five years' experience performing professional level accounting, two years' financial reporting experience, proficiency in the use of automated accounting systems, proficient PC skills in financial, word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software, and the ability to communicate verbally and in writing. Preferred qualifications include being licensed as a Certified Public Accountant or holding a Master's Degree in Business Administration or Accounting, experience with relational database concepts, and experience in governmental accounting.
