Overview
Associate Engineer - OR Substations & Transmission Engineering at Orange and Rockland Utilities, Inc. Base pay range : $80,000.00 / yr - $110,000.00 / yr. This includes information provided by the company; actual pay is based on skills and experience.
Substation Engineer required to join a collaborative engineering culture in Orange and Rockland Engineering. The role involves broad, diverse experience managing small to large projects and opportunities to learn and be challenged. Under general supervision, the Associate Engineer performs Electrical Engineering work in the Substation Engineering discipline, designing and applying utility-grade substation systems for transmission and substation operations. The role provides engineering support to various operations groups throughout the Company.
Responsibilities
- At O&R, commit to a proactive, customer-centric culture to foster trust and value for stakeholders.
- Substation layout design, drawing review, and preparation of equipment / construction labor specifications for substation projects. Prepare sketches for the Design Drafters; perform preliminary engineering cost estimates for feasibility studies; review and prepare reports to determine best practices and designs.
- Perform ampacity calculations, substation grounding, battery sizing, lightning protection, and insulation coordination. Conduct field walks and provide support before, during, and after construction.
- Provide support to Engineers and Senior Engineers on major substation projects.
- Keep the department updated on project progress, including budget updates.
- Participate in the Company Emergency Response Plan through designated storm assignments.
- Perform other related tasks and assignments as required.
Qualifications
Required Education / Experience
Bachelor\'s Degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) and 2-3 years of total work experience, including at least one year of applicable engineering work.Relevant Work Experience
Experience and / or knowledge of substation layout and major equipment (breakers, switches, substation steel) required.Minimum 1 year experience related to substation design preferred.Ability to interpret layout, one-line, and schematic drawings preferred.Excellent written and verbal communication skills; strong analytical, technical, and computer skills preferred.Ability to apply good judgment, initiative, creativity, and decision making in assignments preferred.Proficiency with IEEE / ANSI Standards and National Electrical Safety Code preferred.Licenses and Certifications
Driver\'s License required.Professional Engineer (PE) preferred; NY, NJ & PA PE license or in the process of qualifying preferred.Additional Physical Demands
Must be able to respond to Company emergencies by performing a System Emergency Assignment to restore service to customers.Seniority level
